Well, we broke our record this morning; 192 babies came to the Child Center. At one point Steve said that it was like a bunch of chickens in a hen house! None of the children were sick; their mothers brought them to get clothes. We ran out of all sizes this morning except for a few of the 18 month boys and 24 month old girls. We are going to pass out stuffed teddy bears tomorrow, crocheted baby hats and light weight blankets.
Steve spent the afternoon trimming the trees; some of them had gotten so long that they were drooping down and brushing the top of the vehicles when we drove under them.
We had Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo pack liquid multivitamins and Tylenol so we will get a jump start on tomorrow morning. Tomorrow should be our last really big day because as soon as the mothers find out we have run out of baby clothes they will tell their friends and the numbers should go back to normal.
Amama did not come to work this morning because she was sick with a headache. Steve asked me if I knew whether or not she had high blood pressure; I have never heard anyone mention it but uncontrolled blood pressure is a problem here in Ghana.
This afternoon a young man came to visit us. He had to have one of his legs removed just below his hip. His leg was removed 5 or 6 years ago at the Yendi hospital. He said that something punctured his leg and that infection set in and they had to remove the whole leg; so very sad for him. He is not exactly sure how old he is but he thinks he is about 23. He is still attending high school. He wanted to know if we could help him get an artificial leg. We told him that we would not be able to pay for the whole procedure but that we would help. Steve wrote a letter for him to take to the social welfare office to see if they could help him. We told him to go to the orthopedic office to see if he could get a rough estimate as to how much an artificial leg would cost. He has taught himself to ride a bicycle! Imagine that! He carries his crutches with him as he rides along peddling with one foot. Hopefully we will hear back from him in a few days so we can get the process started.
It is almost time for Wednesday evening Bible study so I will close for now. Thank you for all you do for us and for the folks in Ghana. We really appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
