Five sets of twins came to the Child Center this morning. Three sets were older babies but we also had 2 new sets. Speaking of twins; one of the church members from Kakpande has had 2 sets of twins back to back. When we went to visit the church a couple weeks ago he asked us how to prevent his wife from delivering again. He is afraid that every time they will be twins. You could get a family in a hurry if you always had twins.
Steve called Divine a little while ago and he is still in Tamale; he is still waiting in the office for his receipts. It takes the people in the offices and the banks forever to do anything! Part of the reason is that they don’t have cash registers and many times they are working the figures in their heads or with a calculator. The guy we order formula from called this afternoon to let us know it had been delivered and we needed to come pick it up. As we were going Steve said he sure hoped that he had already written the receipt. That was just wishful thinking on Steve’s part. We had to wait for him to figure the cost; figure the tax and write the receipt.
They have started fighting again in the Chereponi area. On Saturday Edward and one another brother from the Konkomba Church at Tombu came to the mission house. We asked them how things were going in their area. He said that everything was calm. As he was going home he heard that the Chokosi had come and attacked his village. The report was that last night you could see fires all around from where they had attacked and burned the houses. The president went to Chereponi on Thursday and pleaded with the chiefs to stop the fighting. His visit obviously did not do any good. They are supposed to have another meeting this week. We work with churches that are Konkomba and churches that are Chokosi.
We needed to change the air filters in both the old van and the truck; there were none to be had in Yendi so Gomda, the mechanic, ordered us some from Tamale. They came on State Transport this morning. Gomda made a house call and put them on the vehicles for us. Wasn’t that sweet of him?
Half of the 30 day Muslim fasting is over. No one has the energy to do anything. Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo just sit around dozing all afternoon. Meri can hardly keep her eyes open; she has had a headache for days which is probably caused by dehydration. They are not allowed to drink anything either. I asked what would happen if you forgot you were fasting and ate something or got a drink of water. Mr. Iddrisu said that if it is an accident it will not count against you because, “God is feeding you!”
Thank you for the love, prayers and support. We appreciate all you do for us!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
