We only thought we were going to get a new carpenter to put the roof on the building. Red came yesterday evening and brought the metal doors for the building. They look really nice. He asked us who was going to put on the roof. We told him that we were going to try a new man because Aboochi is very busy and we want the roof put on quickly and that he is expensive. Aboochi is one of Red’s best friends. Red said that he thought it would make us look bad if we did not give Aboochi first chance at the job because Aboochi has done all the roofing work on the mission compound for years. Red said that he would talk to Aboochi and tell him that we want the work done as fast as possible and that we did not want an inflated price. We cancelled the man Dawda was going to get to come and give an estimate. Aboochi came this morning and gave us a very reasonable estimate. He said that he was in between jobs and he would be free to start the work as soon as we got the lumber and got the wood treatment painted on the lumber. We gave him the money to buy the wood, have it ripped and delivered at the job site. This afternoon he came back and said that there was no lumber in Yendi and that the next truck would be here on Monday. Aboochi wanted us to know that the work would be delayed a couple days. He is going back to the lumber yard and put a deposit on the lumber we need.
Dawda could not finish putting the block on top of the header they poured across the pillars on the veranda of the building because it is taking the cement a while to dry; when they removed the supports the header started to sag. He said that we need a couple more days for it to dry. Maybe it is a good thing that there is no lumber in Yendi right now. The masons started working on the “grain drying floor” this afternoon.
The high temperature today was 112 degrees with a heat index of 121 degrees. We had to go to town several times today in this heat; wearing a face mask; riding in a truck with no air conditioning! We drank liters and liters of water today. Zorash and I sorted the fabric scraps that we got yesterday and we got them washed. It took 3 over stuffed loads to get them all washed. They were filthy but it took them hardly any time to dry. I think it took me and Steve longer to hang them up than it did for them to dry.
Nazo has been helping the masons all week; he is tired. He said that he was going to think about it and that he might stay home and rest tomorrow. He is trying to weigh the option of resting over making some extra money.
Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
