Emmanuel’s family was successful in getting a copy of his voter’s ID. We are hopeful that they will be able to use the copy to get his tax ID number. Emmanuel is very frail and we were surprised when we saw him ride in this morning as a passenger on a motorcycle. Two young men brought him with them to Yendi because they thought that he might have to be present to get a copy of the voter’s ID. The men rode with Emmanuel sandwiched between them to support him and keep him from falling off the motorcycle. There are no vehicles in their village; only a few motorcycles. The Ghanaians are masters at making do with what they have.
Timothy Niligrini, the evangelist, is also a tailor and a member of the tailor’s association. He has been given the opportunity of going to the technical school in Tamale to take additional tailoring classes and get a “heavier” certificate. The certificate would enable him to better teach his apprentices and to also make uniforms for the military and the police. The government has set up this program for those that want to learn more. The government is going to pay 80% of the cost of the classes and the student will be responsible for 20%. Timothy really wanted to go but he did not have the money for his portion. Timothy is such a hard worker and such a help to us that we decided to give him the money to attend the class. The class meets in Tamale every Monday and Tuesday for 6 months. Timothy came this morning to get the money; he was so excited! You would have thought it was Christmas!
This afternoon when we went to town to pay the city water bill, Steve decided to stop and check on Rashid’s father. Rashid’s father had to have both of his feet and part of his legs removed because of diabetes. Last year we helped him go down south to get artificial legs/feet and to learn how to use them. Rashid said that his father had been back in Yendi for 3 weeks but he had to wait for some of his sores to heal before he could use the legs again. He said he was doing well.
Red made it back to Yendi last night after dark. He came to the mission house this morning and oh, the tales he had to tell! He said that they reworked the engine and put in a new head gasket. He said that it seems to be running good now. He was happy to be back in Yendi. I don’t think that he is going to get to rest because Divine needs 2 loads of sand so he will start hauling tomorrow.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
