Yendi Notes
The yard looked like a hurricane had come through after that dust/rain storm last night. The wind had blown with such force the leaves and limbs were ripped from the trees. There were many places around the wall that was covered up with debris. Nazo is usually off on Sundays but he came today knowing how badly the property looked. I know Iddrisu was happy to have him helping out.
Yesterday’s storm blew half of our lemon tree down. Termites had eaten part of the base of the tree which caused it to break. The tree is very thorny so I had to watch how I cut on it but I still ended up stepping on one of its thorns.
The strangest thing happened last night when I went out to see how much water was in the cistern. I heard water running. I looked around and noticed a water faucet spewing out water. I know, I know that is what it is supposed to do but not in this case. The faucet was locked so it couldn’t be used. I assume the wind made the thorn bush hit the locking mechanism enough that it turned the knob allowing water to come out. Water is too precious to waste!
This morning Amos, a church brother from Sobotito came to request help for his 13 year old son who got a snake bite. The hospital wanted to discharge the boy but the father had to pay the bill before that could happen. We were glad to help the man. His son’s name is “Better.” The snake came into the boy’s room at night and bit him. I suspect the boy rolled over onto the snake who was trying to get warm from the boy’s body heat. We’re glad the boy is on the mend.
Kandie and I are restricting our movements. We are not going out to visit the village churches. I talked with Daniel Batoln, one of the evangelists this morning. He said they had just finished worshipping. The people find it very difficult to pay attention to the warnings the Ghanaian President has laid down like 25 or less meeting in groups. Should the virus come to Yendi I fear it will spread like wildfire.
We received an email from the US Embassy in Accra concerning travel assistance back to the States. It said they will get back with us within three days. If the opportunity comes we will try to have things ready here in the compound for us to leave. Kandie and I won’t mind spending two weeks for quarantining ourselves. We did it for 21 days during the Ebola outbreak.
Please keep the work here in your prayers as we are praying for your health and safety as well. It is sad that man has to have some major problem arise to make him realize he isn’t in control; God is!
Have a good day and let’s put our faith and trust in God to see us through these trying times.
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
