There is a cricket in our room.  He kept me awake part of the night!  I can hear him right now but it is difficult to figure out exactly where he is.  Very annoying!  The Ghanaians have a proverb that says, “If you don’t think little things matter you have never spent the night in a room with a mosquito!”  I think we should change the proverb to include crickets!

We had to make an emergency trip to Tamale this afternoon.  I was diligently working on getting the paperwork to take to the Ghana Revenue office when I realized that I could not find the file with the paperwork.  This is a huge amount of papers; it is the brains of the work!  The files are in a soft side briefcase.  We carry it anytime we have to do business; it has the rubber stamps, letterhead, tax ID numbers, and all the stuff for the Child Center.  I quickly enlisted Steve’s help to hunt for it.   We looked all over the house and in the vehicles.  We knew that we had it in Tamale a couple days ago when we went to the tax office and the Registrar General’s office.  We decided to call Mr. Mahama, the guy that helped us at the Registrar General’s office to see if we left it there.  Sure enough as soon as he answered his phone he said that we had left our documents in his office and that he thought about calling us but never got around to it.  We were so happy!  We left immediately for Tamale.  We wanted to get there as quick as we could but getting to Tamale is never quick; it takes almost 2 hours to get there.

While we were in Tamale we decided to go to the bank; we were going to have to go in the next couple of weeks anyway.  We got to the bank at 2:15 only to find out that they closed at 2:00 because of the Covid pandemic.  We had already written and signed the check.  As we were walking back to the van the bank manager came out from the back of the building and said that they would reopen for us!  Can you imagine?  How sweet is that?  It always amazes us as to how kind the Ghanaian people are.  We were escorted in through the back of the bank and after we made the withdrawal we were escorted out through the back of the bank.

This morning we went to the immigration office in Yendi and dropped off copies of our passports and resident permits.  When Steve stopped in to greet the officers last week they asked for copies of our passport and resident visas.  They are going to put them on file; probably “File 13”.  Ha!

Five more containers of waterproof paint came today.  Mr. Gaddo only ordered it yesterday.  We were surprised that it got here so quickly.  When Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu saw the paint they knew that they had lots of work ahead of them.

My Aunt Betty Jean continues to recover from the Covid virus but it has left her weak; please keep her in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
