Timothy Niligrini, the evangelist/farmer/tailor, needed some extra money so we asked him if he wanted to make some clothes for us. He jumped on the job. I buy fabric whenever I see something that catches my eye. I love to sew and I am like most people that sew; I have a stash of fabric. Timothy does not use a pattern. He takes the person’s measurements and uses them to make the garments. We thought it would be easier to just send him a couple things that were already made for him to use as a pattern. He brought part of the clothes and they look good. His machine does not have a zig-zag feature so he makes the button holes by hand. The only problem I had with the dresses he made for me was that they had a very long slit on both sides; I mean really long. I could touch the top of the slit with my finger tips. I immediately sat down at the sewing machine and fixed that problem.
Dawda, the mason came and put the metal door in place this morning. It looks very nice and will look nicer when we get it painted. Nazo asked if he could paint the door and I quickly found him another job to do because we will paint the metal doors with oil paint. Nazo has been painting for years and he is the worst painter! He gets paint everywhere; all over the light switches, outlets, floor, woodwork and himself. We do not let him paint with oil paint unless it is a cabinet or bookshelf that we can sit out in the middle of the yard. When he paints the out buildings he uses water based paint which can be cleaned up.
Red stopped by this afternoon to take the measurements for doors on the shipping container but he got side tracked helping us work on the green truck. The hood closing mechanism was not working. When we hit a big pothole the latch would come loose. The hood was still held in place by the safety latch but it would be very dangerous if it the safety latch came loose. Red was having a hard time figuring out what the latch was hitting on causing it not to fully lock. I wished I had some lipstick because it makes a great transfer agent. Sort of like when the dentist makes you bite down on that blue paper to see where your teeth are hitting. I decided to use hand lotion. The pump bottle of lotion did the job. It was an easy fix after we figured out where it was touching. Red thought it was a clever idea. He said, “2 mechanics are good!” A little later Steve used an anchor bolt spacer in a hole that had been wallowed out too big for the screw. Red was more than a little impressed, he said, “3 mechanics are better!”
If you remember Meri’s son Aliu has sickle cell disease and he had been sick earlier in the week. Well, he had to go to the hospital because he had an uncontrollable nose bleed. Nose bleeds are not uncommon in people with sickle cell anemia but his was serious enough that he had to have 3 units of blood. People with sickle cell anemia are usually anemic before they have a crisis like a nose bleed; the nose bleed just makes it worse. Meri called yesterday evening to let us know that he was in the hospital and they had used all their money. We went to the hospital and took them some money. They have health insurance but it does not pay for much more than the bed; they had to buy all the medicine and pay for the tests.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. We had a nice cool 87 degrees today.Hope you all are enjoying the first day of Fall.
