It was very quiet at the compound today; especially after the hordes of mothers and babies we have had for the past 4 days. The Child Center is only open 4 days a week.
Zorash stopped by several times today. She needed us to make copies for her. The bank that she has her saving account in has gone “belly up”. She is trying to get her money back. The government has taken over her bank plus 20 or more other local banks because of corruption. The government is going to bail the banks out and try to give the depositors back their money. The people who have accounts in these banks only have until the middle of September to fill out the claim forms. Zorash asked us to help her fill out her claim forms. Hopefully it will work out and they will get their money back. I am worrying about the people out in the villages that have money in these banks and have not heard that they have collapsed. Some of the churches have savings accounts; Steve is going to check with them on Friday when they come in for class and help them fill out forms if necessary.
You know we have been having an ongoing fight with the bats that are in the big mango tree in the front yard. There are hundreds and hundreds of bats in the tree. Over the years we have tried lots of different things to get them to leave. Yesterday we thought of yet another idea. We decided to hang razor wire vertically from the tree tops. Our hope is that the bats will run into the razor wire and damage their wings so they will not be able to fly. Steve spent the afternoon throwing a small sand bag up into the tree trying to get it to the upmost branches. He had to work between rain showers but he now has 2 sections of razor wire hung and is planning on hanging a third one. These bats are fruit bats and they do not fly by sonar; they sit up there and watch us. They look like little puppy dogs; they are actually cute but the pooping and urinating is too much. As Divine says, “It is more than necessary!” It is impossible to sit under the tree for any length of time without getting pooped on. We will let you know how the latest idea plays out.
I cut out 10 little girl dresses today. I showed Timothy Niligrini the evangelist / tailor the dresses that girls and ladies made for the children and he wants to learn how to make them. He said he would like to make some to sell in his sewing shop during the holidays. He is supposed to come to the house Sunday afternoon for a sewing lesson. I wanted to have some cut out so we could start sewing as soon as he gets here. I showed him the pattern for the shorts that have no side seam and he was very impressed. I will try to get a few pairs of those cut out tomorrow.
Please continue to pray for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
