This morning we started passing out the girl dresses that some of the church ladies made for the children. Let me tell you the mothers were so proud to get the dresses. We had rain caps and rubber blow up balls for the boys. Steve told me to stop giving the balls to the small children because they could not keep from biting them and once they are bitten the air goes out very quickly. Of course the little guys don’t understand why their ball has collapsed. I tried to take pictures of the little girls in their new dresses but most of the pictures were horrible because the kids are afraid of the white woman with the camera! Part of the reason they are afraid of us is because when the children misbehave the parents tell them that the white people are going to come and take them away! When we get a screamer in the Child Center we try not to look at them.
It tried to rain this afternoon but just blew around a bunch of dirt. It was terribly hot today; the high temperature was 111 degrees with a heat index of 133 degrees. The humidity was 40% today which is why it felt so hot. It did not take the laundry very long to get dry today!
Divine stopped by for a visit this afternoon. He needed a new tire for the back of his motorcycle. We had one in the garage that we bought some years ago but somehow we bought the wrong size. We have been looking for someone to give it to. Divine was very happy to get it. When he took it to the mechanic to have it put on his motorcycle the mechanic told him that he had a good used tire he would sell him for the front end so he now has new tires all around.
We worked on the books until we got stuck. Some things had been paid for while we were gone and we did not understand what Mr. Iddrisu and Zorash had written down so we went with Mr. Iddrisu to Zorash’s house and figured out that there were a couple receipts for the same thing.
Nazo has been trying to clear the back field of the small trees so it can be plowed but it is so dry right now that the tractors are not running. Farmers do not own their own tractors; they hire a man with a tractor to come and plow the fields. Some plow for money and others will plow for produce.
Please keep us in your prayers and please continue to pray for rain for our area.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
