Yendi Notes
We saw the saddest thing the other day when we were in Tamale. There is a large park near the cultural center where functions are held. Hundreds of disabled people were gathered in the park. Buses from all over had brought the disabled people to Tamale. Some of the disabled received new wheelchairs, crutches and sleeping mats but the sad part was that a “faith healer” had descended upon the crowd promising them healing for a “fee”. It is sickening that there are those out there that would take advantage of a disabled person.
The air conditioner in our bedroom froze up last night. Steve went to town and got the AC mechanic. He found a leak in the unit where the outside hose is connected to the inside hose. It is a split unit. He readily admitted that the fault was his. Last time he worked on the unit I tried to give him soapy water to check the connection but he assured me that his connections never leak! Ha! Guess what? His connection leaked! He said that he was not going to charge us for fixing the leak but that would not have been right because he had to add more Freon to the unit. We paid him for the gas; gave him something for his pocket and Steve gave him a set of wrenches we had brought in from the states for just such an occasion. When he left he said, “You are so good to me; you will kill me!”
Red got about 15 more metal boxes finished today. Nazo finished painting the last batch this afternoon. He will have lots of work to do tomorrow.
This afternoon we went to town to buy malaria medicine for us and for the workers. The pharmacist did not know the price of the medicine but he sent it with us anyway. He is going to call Steve when he finds out the price. Now isn’t that a strange way to do business?
I took some ceiling material to Mr. Iddrisu’s house this afternoon and went in to visit his mother. She is an old widow lady. She has been dizzy and has fallen several times. The last time she fell she caught her foot on something and it was open and swollen. She said it was very painful. I told her I would send her some ibuprofen and that she should keep it elevated even in the night.
While I worked on the books Steve finished the monthly and started working on the schedule for the seminar. You should be getting the report in a couple days.
Steve just came in and told me that I burned the potatoes! Oops! I thought I turned them off. I love to “high fry” stuff because I am always in a rush. If you are “high frying” and you forget there is nothing to do but start over. Luckily it was only the potatoes and not the whole meal! Ha!
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
