We have spent the whole day in the office! First thing this morning Steve started filling out the workers and our annual income tax returns. Please what a mess! Steve tried 4 different employee returns and he could not get the program to hold the figures that he typed in. Finally, after several hours of going around in circles and entering the same data he went up to the GRA (IRS) office to see if they could help him figure out what the problem was. The officer told him that the figures would never hold because the system was not up to date. He said that they were 2 months behind getting the employees pay entered into the computer. He said that Steve should go ahead and enter the figures for the whole year; he was confident that when they got the figures entered on their side everything would come back to normal with zero balances! Really! We will see how that works out! After he figured out that the problem was not anything he could do anything about, he continued. He only had one employee left to enter before we took a break for lunch.

Divine called just as we were finishing our lunch and said that he had gotten most of the church papers finished and he wanted to bring them to the house. He sat at the dining room table until almost dark. Part of the time he was fine tweaking the numbers, part of the time he was making phone calls and part of the time he was chatting to me while Steve made copy after copy. Steve decided that we are going to have to buy a new used copy machine. This afternoon he had to hand feed the copies one by one and we had a tonnage of copies to make. I finally told Divine that it was going to take the rest of the afternoon and part of the evening to finish the copies. He said that he had taken his motor king to the mechanic for repairs so he had nothing to do but sit at the table, visit and drink cold water. He was just about to leave when the last church called with their information. We are happy to have that part of the job behind us for another year. Divine is planning on going to Tamale tomorrow and drop off the paperwork.

I told Steve that I was not going to cook supper tonight but by the time Divine left Steve was in doubt that there would be any barbecued guinea fowls left in town. This is Ramadan and as soon as the sun goes down the people come out into the town in droves. Everyone is hungry and the food gets bought up very quickly. We are going to have Raman noodles; they are easy to fix; they just require chopping and dicing.

Take care and have a wonderful day!

In HIS Service,
Steve, Kandie and Skeeter

The Monkeyshines

INSULTED! I AM HIGHLY INSULTED AND I REFUSE TO HIDE IT!

The morning was fine; I got plenty of attention; I got to play outside and I had plenty of snacks to eat! But give me a break! This afternoon was a MESS! Divine came to the house; I don’t like Divine! He might be alright but he smells funny and talks too loud! At least this time when he showed up, he wasn’t driving that noisy motor king! That thing disturbs me and makes me nervous! He showed up right after lunch which is my time to get to go inside and play! He stayed and stayed! Once he left the house and was headed for the gate; I was jumping for joy but then Mom comes out of the house and calls him back in! Is that woman crazy? We had a chance to get rid of him and she called him back! She said that he was going to go out on the street and buy phone units but she remembered that Dad could send him units from his phone so she called him back in! When I am not so happy about something I jump on my tire swing and make it slam against the side of the metal bars on my jail cell; it makes a terrible noise and gets everyone’s attention! I know they heard the noises but no one came to my rescue.

It was almost dark when he finally left! As soon as he was out of the gate Mom came rushing out to my jail cell with a bottle of milk! I was so hungry that I quickly drank the whole thing! Dad fixed me a delicious plate of fruits and vegetables but I did not get out of solitary confinement because they were going to go to town! Now you know why I am insulted!

I might have to bite someone!

Love, Skeeter (even though I don’t feel very affectionate right now!)
