Let me begin by saying the high temperature reached 118F today. Ya know what kind of work you want to do on a day that is 118F? NONE! But it is the Lord’s Day so we traveled to the village of Wadiig. The village of Wadiig is one of those “you can’t get there from here” places. During the rainy season it is cut off from Yendi by a small river that overflows its banks and makes a flood plain that only a wooden canoe can cross. Today we drove through the dry riverbed to get to the village.
When we arrived we met Brother Noah who took us to the chief of the village. The chief is a church member. He is unmarried and has bad eyes. He was complaining about one of his eyes hurting today so we had some ibuprofen with us that we gave to him. We found out that about 34 people lived there. Kandie asked to take some photos and permission was granted. One lady had some shea butter oil for eating she was willing to sell. We bought a small bottle for ourselves to try and a large 1.5 liter bottle for Timothy. One of the men had a room that had some gods in it . Kandie was permitted to video the room. Another man brought us a problem to solve. He owns the only grinding mill in the village and it was broken down . The women in the village have to travel 10-12 miles(usually by walking) to have their grain milled every week. The young man said it would cost 200 GH Cedis ( approximately $40USD) to fix the mill. We gave the money to the chief in the name of the Church to have the mill fixed. Oh, how happy the women were. When we got back to the Church we informed them what we had done.
Four men and five women were present for services along with twenty children. I continue to preach the lesson “The Unchanging God” where I use a key and padlock to illustrate my lesson as Timothy interprets for me. After services we had several questions asked that dealt with finding a young man or woman to marry . Marriage is very important to these people. If you are not married your word doesn’t carry much clout in your village. We also passed out the crochet hats to the small children.
Red , our part time driver came by the house just before we left for Kulkpeni this evening. He said he had done all the repair work to the handicapped bicycle and he was going to send it tomorrow to have it painted. We were happy to get that news.
At bible study tonight I asked Timothy if we could meet outside because the building was radiating the heat; even the wooden benches were hot! The building has two ceiling fans but it is so hot the air isn’t cool. It is like standing in front of a heater.
That wraps it up for today. Have a great Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
