Today’s seminar was a success! I don’t know what the official head count was but I counted 35 men. They came from all around the Sunyani area. The topics addressed today were “History of the Church in Ghana”, “The Preacher and His Work” and “The Distinction of the Church”. There was a question and answer session after each lecture.
The church ladies fixed lunch for us and just for a tip for those church ladies out there that are in charge of potlucks the next time you need water to wash dishes with or to cook with and the water is running short you can always get it out of the baptistery. Very few churches here in Ghana have their own baptistery but the New Town Church of Christ has their own; it is outside but that is not a problem because the weather here is always hot! Today a young man wanted to be baptized but the water in the baptistery had been used up. They took the young man to a nearby stream and baptized him. He is engaged to marry a young lady that attends the New Town congregations. Everyone was very excited about his decision to be baptized. Richard the preacher said that he had been studying with him for a long time! What a happy day!
The ladies actually fixed two meals for us today. At lunch they fixed banku (fermented corn dough balls) with fried fish with their heads still on and fresh Shito (sort of like a very hot salsa). There was some discussion about what they were going to feed Steve and me. They thought they needed to go out and buy something special for us. They were surprised when they found out that not only do we eat banku but it is one of my favorites and that we actually like hot pepper and Shito. This evening they fixed rice with tomato oil served with a piece of fried fish with their heads on and a small piece of fried chicken. It is so very kind of them to work so hard to feed the group.
The program was supposed to start at 8:00 this morning but nothing happened until 9:45. Such is life in Ghana! No one pays much attention to the clock.
We are supposed to be back at the church building tomorrow morning at 8:00 but we will be on time if we get there at 9:00.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
