Our whirlwind day began at 7am. I surveyed the items we needed to order from Mr. Hayes’ pharmacy and Kandie was gathering cooking utensil for the seminar for Nazo’s wife Amina to wash. We went into town at 8am and placed the order with Mr. Hayes. We discussed getting diesel for the green pickup. It was a good thing we did; it was very low on fuel.
The next part of the whirlwind was going to the child center while Kandie was temporarily working with Zorash, Amama, and Amina to get all items dealing with food washed. They washed the 600 plastic bowls and lids that will be used to serve those attending the seminar. We will see how this new idea of using reusable bowl washes out (pun intended) with the ladies that cook. Before leaving the Child Center at 11 am Marcus said we had already seen 50 children.
On our way to Tamale we dropped a load of cook pots at the church building. We went to the bank after paying the annual Tier 2 Pension Scheme for the employees, went to the Social Welfare office twice , the lands office, and to Vodafone to get our landline phone working again. We were pleasantly surprised that we were able to check off every item on our list so we had plenty of time to go to the Cultural Center to do some gift buying. At 4pm we stopped at KFC to eat lupper (lunch and supper combination). Marcus was surprised to find out how good the KFC chicken is here. Our meal was consumed on the way back to Yendi. We then stopped at Timothy Niligrini’s house to pick up the ginger root to make the corn porridge for the seminar and to pay the mason that set a new metal door in one of the rooms used to house seminar guests. I had a few chicken parts left to give to Timothy’s dog; she loved them. Before going back to the house we went into Yendi to the pharmacy to pay for the multivitamins and other items so the supplies for the Center will be sufficient for the next 2 months when we are gone.
As I made reference to a whirlwind earlier (it keeps circling) so the work continued on when we got back to the house. Kandie and Marcus worked on payroll for 4 hours while I unpacked and put away all the items in the 10 pieces of luggage.
That’s about it for today. Thanks so much for your help with the work. Please pray for a successful seminar and the safety of all those who will begin coming on Wednesday to set up.
In His service,
Stephen, Kandie, & Marcus
