We are back in Yendi. We thought that we would be in Yendi about the same time as Perry and Gina got home but they sent a message and told us that they had a 2-hour flight delay in Atlanta because of weather. A little later they updated it to 1 ½ hours. They said that otherwise they had a good flight and did not have any trouble going through customs; and all their bags arrived with them which is always a good thing. It is especially a good thing this time because they graciously carried a suitcase full of our stuff back with them. We were happy to get some extra things taken home but we would have hated it if the suitcase caused them problems on the way!
We would have been back in Yendi earlier but we had some business to do when we in Tamale. We bought some fresh fruit and then went to the bank. We were almost too late to get into the bank because it closes at 3:00; while we were waiting to cash our check, the bank closed and they locked the front doors. We had to leave the bank by the back door. We stopped at the Social Welfare department to check to see if the new license for the Child Center had come yet. It had not; they said they would hold it for us until we come back after the first of the year. Yikes! That is how it got misplaced last year. Our last stop was the auditor’s office. They knew that we were coming so we were able to sign the paperwork and pay for the audit for both the Child Center and the West Hobbs St Church of Christ. Mr. Alhassan, the auditor wanted to have a discussion about increasing the cost of this year’s audit but we quickly pulled out last year’s receipt that stated last year’s price would hold for this year too because he insisted on increasing the price last year. Ha! Steve told Mr. Alhassan, “Sister Kandie has a good memory!” In turn he replied, “She is a very fast thinker.” It is particularly true when it comes to money matters! We had to sign our names in 12 places; Ghanaians love their paperwork!
As we were leaving Tamale we stopped at Kentucky Fried Chicken and got something to eat on the way back to Yendi. It was dark by the time we arrived in Yendi. We had a safe uneventful flight and trip back to Yendi which is always a good thing. Our flight was delayed about 15 minutes but that is nothing to complain about.
The fan on the little freezer is crying; Steve thinks the bearings might be going out. We will have to have the refrigerator repair man take a look at it to see what its problem is. It would be awful if it went out while we were in the states!
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. Continue the prayer for safe travels a little while longer, until the Martins get home safely.

Steve, Kandie, Perry, Gina and Skeeter
The Monkeyshines
I am finally able to write again! The trauma in my life is over! The strangers have left! Now things can get back to normal! I was pretty much afraid of the strangers; I thought they were going to do something terrible to my parents! I felt the need to act ugly when they tried to talk to me! I have learned to stomp my feet! It is particularly effective when I am playing on the veranda because I like to sit on this blue plastic water container and when I stomp my feet, grab the container and jump the container makes lots of noise and it makes everyone think that I am as ferocious as a lion! Of course, I make ugly faces when I am trying to scare someone off!
Did I tell you that I lost a couple teeth and that one of my big permanent canine teeth is starting to come in? Just imagine how big and bad I am going to look when I have real teeth instead of baby teeth!
I was very happy to see that blue van roll into the yard this evening. It was dark but as soon as I saw the gate open, I could see the outline of Mom and I knew that I was going to be rescued from my boredom! I made Mom beg me to come out of my jail cell this evening because it was dark outside and I don’t like to venture out after dark! As soon as I got out, I gulped down a whole bottle of milk. I followed the milk with ½ a banana. I was starving! I played hard for a couple hours and then I drank another ½ bottle of milk before it was time for bed. I actually stayed up later than I was supposed to tonight!
Aren’t I a lucky monkey?
Love, Skeeter
