More crocheted baby hats were given out today. The larger sizes are a big hit. Most of the mothers have one child right after another and the older children that come with the mothers were a little jealous that their little brother or sister got a hat and they did not. We asked for some larger hats that would fit a 3 year old child to be made. The older children loved getting a hat too.
Red came this morning and worked on the gutters. Nazo helped him. Nazo said that he was not feeling very well. He said that he got sick on Sunday just like Mr. Iddrisu did. Nazo thinks he has malaria because on Sunday he painted in the hot sun. Painting in the hot sun might give you a heat stroke but it will not give you malaria. Malaria is a parasite that is transmitted by a mosquito.
Mr. Iddrisu said he was feeling a little better but he still sounds awful. He has a terrible cough. He said that he can’t breathe and is dizzy. Steve gave him some over the counter cold medicine. He tried to do a little painting today but he spent most of the day just lying around.
One of the elders from the Balogu palace stopped by the Child Center for a visit this morning. He is going to help us get the land papers sorted out. We have been working on it for a while. The town and country planning was helping us but we have not heard from them in several months so we are going to proceed through another route. Zorash, the receptionist, just finished the paper work on a plot of land she bought and this is the man that helped her. Of course nothing in Ghana is done in a hurry!
Meri’s son Aliu got discharged from the hospital yesterday. When Steve called this morning to check on him Meri said that he is still complaining about his stomach hurting. He is not well enough to go back to school.
We bought more shea butter today. We want to have a good supply set aside to use later. There will be no more shea nuts harvested until next year. There are people that store the shea nuts; they like to hold on to them until the price goes high. They do the same thing with the field corn and rice. We would rather buy when the price is low and store the shea butter ourselves.
Hope you have a great day.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
