Steve spent a large portion of the afternoon updating the charts for the malnourished, low weight children. There is a graph on the charts with a line to indicate whether the child is gaining or losing weight. Mr. Iddrisu and Zorash have never gotten the hang of how to graph the charts so after we have been gone for a while the charts have to be brought up to date.
The sink in the kitchen has been draining very slowly; we have had to plunge it a few times. We finally decided that we needed to clean out the drain pipe from the kitchen to the clean out leading into the septic tank. We went to town and bought some of the red industrial gloves the men use when they spray chemicals. Fortunately we have a “snake” for just such an occasion. Steve was ready with the bug spray when he opened the clean out. I think all the roaches in Yendi live in our septic system! Enough of that! The drain is flowing much better now.
We had more mothers come to the Center this morning than we expected; 82 children were brought this morning. We were short-handed this morning because Mr. Iddrisu has taken off a few days to harvest his corn. Finally we figured out why we had so many mothers; today was the day for the mothers to go to the clinic near the mission house for their babies’ immunizations. The babies were not sick; the mothers needed Tylenol because they had gotten their immunizations.
While we were in town this afternoon we bought new plastic garbage can. The ones we are presently using have been here for almost 20 years; they are wicker and they have begun to unravel at the top. If you walk too close to them they will grab your clothes and tip over, spilling the trash. It was time for them to go! I doubt that they will actually be disposed of; someone will take them home with them.
The officers that are working with the collapsed banking system came to Yendi today. Zorash took her claim form and stood in line forever. She was not happy with what they told her. It seems that she is not going to get as much money as she thought she was going to get. There is a discrepancy with the amount of her deposits. Maybe they can get it worked out.
Thank you for your love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
