The electricity is out so I thought that I would write the notes before the battery on the computer dies. We made several trips to town today. I needed more small storage containers; I am trying to reorganize my sewing station. Steve added an extra shelf to my station and now I have room to put more stuff. We even offloaded some of the stuff from the office and put it in containers. What we have done so far looks very nice.
Zorash did not come to work today; she had to go to Tamale for something. We were glad that she went because she was able to find raincoats for the watchmen and Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu. We sent her the money to buy the raincoats through her mobile money account on her phone. It still amazes me that they can actually get money that way. We got lots of stuff filed away. In case you were wondering,we got copies made of all the important documents; now we have a back up file of almost everything.
Meri was back at work today; she had finally gotten over her cold. I still was happy that I had things for her to do outside. We moved the ironing board outside and after she finished ironing she used the blower and blew off the verandas and the patio.
Steve, Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo went to see the YaNaa this afternoon. As always it is a big deal to go and visit him; he is the second most important chief in Ghana. Today was Nazo’s day off; he came to the mission house so he could “lead” them to the palace. You cannot go to the palace by yourself. You also cannot go empty handed. Steve made gift envelopes for not only the YaNaa but also for the secretary, the YaNaa’s wives, the elders, the chief warrior, and the security guards. The palace is always guarded by military men. This time Steve remembered to wear slip on shoes; it is customary for all guests to remove their shoes before going into the palace. I opted to stay at the mission house. Steve came home with a fist full of Kola nuts. It is the tradition for the YaNaa to give his guest Kola nuts to chew on. Mr. Iddrisu’s mother loves the Kola nuts so he was going to take the ones he received to her. Steve added his to Mr. Iddrisu’s. They are bitter and full of caffeine. Steve does not like them; wasn’t he generous in re-gifting them? Mr. Iddrisu’s mother will be happy when he gets home.
The outhouse company delivered some cement blocks to Mr. Iddrisu’s house but Nazo did not get any. Maybe they will come tomorrow.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
