Yendi Notes
This morning Abdulai Fuseni sent his son to the mission house. Abdulai lost both his legs almost 18 years ago in an auto accident. We started helping him when my parents were still alive. Whenever he needs assistance we try to help him. Over the years we have given him multiple wheelchairs, a handicapped tricycle and cement. We helped electrify his house and start a store by which he could make a little money to support his family. This morning Abdulai sent his son because he had heard that Steve lost his brother. He sent his son with a small monetary gift for Steve to help with the burial of his brother. His gift was a 2 cedi note which monetarily is only worth 41 cents but what a wonderful gift! There are no words to describe how touched we were by his gift! There is no telling what a sacrifice it was for him to get 2 Cedis. It reminded us of the account of the “widow’s mite.” People are so kind to us. We in turn gave his son a small gift for bringing the message to us and we sent a bag of cement to Abdulai. Last time we saw him he told us that he was going to have to repair one of the mud ball walls of his room. After he makes the mud balls he will have to plaster them.
We woke up hot this morning. During the night there was a problem with the electricity. It ruined the compressor in the air conditioner in our bedroom. First thing this morning Steve called Boat the A/C man. He ordered a new compressor from Tamale. He got it back up and running a few minutes ago. It is cooling nicely. The high temperature today was 108 degree so we need the air conditioning.
This afternoon we got the fermented corn and millet ground. We added lots of fresh ginger and cloves. It smelled like a pumpkin pie while it was being ground. We also ground two more batches of weaning mix to leave for the malnourished children while we are in the states. It took almost 2 hours to get all the grinding done.
We are going to give Tichak the night watchman a suit coat tonight. He is a Christian and helps us with the seminar. We think he will enjoy having one to wear for special occasions. Of course Steve will tie him some ties so he will have a complete set.
Take care and keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
