We have hardly had time to stop and breathe today! Steve and Marcus got up at 6:00 this morning to go to Kpamang to get 5 pigs. Before they left the mission house they cut 2 pieces of metal roofing sheets in half so the men would have a semi-clean place to cut up the meat. The meat for the seminar is going to be pork and chicken. The pigs were slaughtered and ready to transport out to Kulkpeni. It is about 15 miles to Kpamang from Yendi and another 5 miles out to Kulkpeni. As soon as the pigs were off loaded the men started cutting them into pieces. Steve also bought a pig from Matthew, one of the Church leaders at Kulkpeni. The women fried the meat as it was being cut up. They fry the meat until it is rather dry so it will last for the whole seminar. There is no refrigeration for this meat. Steve also bought 44 pounds of frozen chicken. There are a few people that do not eat pork.
We provide lunch for all the people that work cooking the pigs and cleaning up the property for the seminar. We did not want the ladies to cook so Steve and Marcus took everyone’s order and went to Akos, the best chop bar (outdoor eating place) in Yendi and bought lunch for the workers. They bought lunch for us too. I did not want to cook either.
While the guys were gone I worked in the Child Center with Mr. Iddrisu and Meri. During our down time Iddrisu and I finished re-counting the payroll for the next 3 months.
After we closed the Child Center Meri, Amama and I went to the grinding mill to grind the corn porridge for Friday’s breakfast. The fermented corn and millet are seasoned with ginger and cloves! Yum! Not! While we were at the grinding mill we decided to grind another batch of weaning mix. It took us longer than we expected to do the grinding because the electric company sent a group of men to put a meter on the grinding mill; it took them about ½ an hour to do the job.
This afternoon Iddrisu and I worked on the taxes and IRS paperwork. He always looks a little confused when we have to do all the things to get us prepared to come home. What am I talking about, I get confused too!
Steve went to town and bought a few last minute things we needed to take out for the seminar including the bread for breakfast in the morning. While he was gone Marcus helped me gather and record all the items we use at the seminar.
Just before dark we took out another load. The ladies were preparing supper for the workers. Divine and Timothy were both there so we took the opportunity to have a small Child Center meeting. It was 7:00 by the time we got back to the mission house. I had put chicken and potatoes in the oven before we left so it did not take long to get supper on the table.
We are pooped! Take care and have a good day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
