Steve gave the evangelist and church leader an elastic tie down for their bicycles /motorcycles.  Everyone carries a load on the back of their motorcycles and bicycles.  The men were pleased with the gift.   Only a few of the men receive monthly support so Steve likes to let them know we appreciate the work they are doing.  Twenty-three men attended the class this month.  Steve said that he could tell that his topic of honest dealing and telling the truth hit a nerve but it was a discussion that was greatly needed.

Zorash came to work today to make up the day she missed earlier in the week.  She is one of the volunteers for her area.  She took off work to help organize the group that was going door to door giving out polio drops.  She said that they have had several new cases of polio and the organizations that pay for the program are “hot” because they thought that they had eradicated polio from Ghana.  They are giving out the drops all over Ghana.  Yesterday while we were in Tamale a man came into the cell phone office carrying the cooler and wearing the vest that indicated he was one of the volunteers.  They call them volunteers but they actually pay them for going house to house.  The way the kids run around all over the place it is a wonder that they even give polio drops to half of them.  After they give the drops they color the child’s finger with a magic marker so they don’t accidently give them a second dose.  They are going to give another dose in a few weeks.

Zorash and I spent the bulk of the morning cutting quilt blocks.  While we were working a lady came to the house selling huge squash.  Once before I had bought some butternut squash from her so when she harvested these big squash she remembered me.  I had never seen this particular variety but I bought one to try.  Zorash asked if she could stay around until the squash got done so she could try it.  We usually eat ours with either brown sugar or pancake syrup.  I let her try them with brown sugar and then with a little margarine and salt.  She preferred hers with the margarine.

When it was time for her to leave she said that she was worried about me having to stay at the house by myself because Steve was at Kulkpeni teaching class.  Isn’t that sweet?

Take care and have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
