Another day spent in Tamale! We did not get off as early as we wanted to this morning because we got to visiting with Donkey and he is always full of stories. I love his stories because most of the time they contain some Juju or witchcraft. Today’s story was about a mentally delayed woman that was poisoned by a lady that was jealous of her because the not so normal lady’s children were more beautiful than her own children. The deceased woman had 3 children all of which went to live at the Ya-Na’s palace.
We had to go to Tamale to go to the bank. While we were there we bought 20 cases of Konkomba Bibles and a several cases of communion juice. We also stopped at the air condition repair place to check on my brother Paul’s truck. The mechanic said that he needed to keep the truck for a few days so Red rode home on public transport. We offered to let him ride back to Yendi with us but he wanted to get back early. While we were at the shop we had him top the van we were driving up with Freon. We decided that we are going to have the tinting material put on windows; that should help the van stay cooler!
It is very difficult to find a place to park in Tamale. People just park wherever they can find a spot. Many people park behind people and all along the edges of the road. This morning we could not find a place to park when we stopped at the store where we buy the communion juice so I jumped out and went in the store while Steve drove around the block. I bought the juice and had it sitting on the edge of the road when he came back around. He pulled over and I loaded the juice. When we got ready to drive on, the policeman made us stop; he said that we had parked too close to the stop light which was not working. He was in charge of telling the drivers when it was their turn to go. He said that when he told us to go we did not go because I was still trying to get in the van. Really what was he supposed to do; take off with my leg hanging out of the van? After much taa-do about nothing and threats of taking us to the police station they decided to give us a spot fine. After we paid the fine one of the officers turned to us and said, “This is a gift from your heart!” Really, we were told how much to pay! If it was a gift from my heart it would have been a zero dollar gift!
They were not busy at the bank today but it still took them forever! Our withdrawal was a large one and they had to go to the vault to get the denominations that we needed.
The highlight of the day was going to the Lebanese restaurant for lunch! We were starving and ate far too much but it was delicious and a nice change from Kentucky Fried Chicken and eating off the street. We usually do not have time to go to a restaurant to eat because it takes them a long time to prepare the food.
Take care and have a good day!

I sat in my jail cell and I sat and I sat! No one came out to play! No one rescued me; no one gave me treats to eat; no one groomed me; and no one talked to me! I had a lonely, boring day! The only people I saw today were Donkey and Mr. Iddrisu and they are no fun! I sat and watched the gate all day but my people were nowhere to be seen! I saw them get in the van and leave early this morning and I knew I was doomed!
Finally at 7:00 this evening I saw the van turn through the gate! I was so excited! It was almost dark so it was difficult for me to see who was coming in the gate but as soon as the gate was open I heard mom talking and I knew all was well with my world again!
Not only did Mom and Dad come home they brought me a special treat. They saw a group of young boys ages 6-8 standing along the sides of the road trying to sell fruit that looked like clusters of grapes. Mom does not know the name of this fruit but I had it last year and I loved it! Mom bought all the fruit from all the boys! It was their lucky day!
As soon as Mom and I were reunited she gave me a cluster of the faux grapes! I was so excited! I snatched them from her and started filling my cheek pouches with them. Yum!
Life is good again!
Love, Skeeter
