The plastering job on the church building at Kulkpeni is done and it looks very nice. They finished around 3:30. Steve has made several trips out to Kulkpeni today. At 1:30 Dauda, the mason called Steve and asked him to bring him some food. There are no food vendors at Kulkpeni. Well, there always seems to be a language barrier in these matters. Steve thought Dauda said he wanted “Bofruit” which is sort of like a doughnut which is usually eaten in the morning. We hunted around town trying to find some Bofruit but could not find any. We decided to buy them some meat pies instead. Some of the vendors make meat pies which are stuffed with cabbage, onions and canned mackerel. It is a hardy snack. Dauda said that what he was asking for was some sort of dish made with mashed yams. We told him we did not know that food. He seemed happy with the meat pies. When the masons finished the job the cement was still wet. Steve was afraid that the neighborhood children would decide to put their hand / footprints in the wet cement so he hired Timothy’s son to sit at the church building the rest of the afternoon and keep the small children away until it had time to harden.
Mr. Iddrisu did not come back to work again today. He is still shelling the corn. He cannot leave it unattended until he has put it in the bags the first time so he knows how much he has or someone will steal it. The men say they cannot trust their wives, sister, aunts or mother. Once the corn has been shelled the man will put it in 200 pound bags and keep the bags in his room under lock and key. Please, if the men weren’t so selfish the women wouldn’t have to steal from them. If I have to help plant, harvest and shell the corn I would want to get my own portion!
We only had a handful of mothers at the Child Center this morning because today was Yendi’s big market day so I excused myself from the Center and came to the house and started piecing a quilt I started several years ago. I do love a crafting project!
Timothy Niligrini came to the mission house with Matthew this morning. Matthew was going somewhere on his motorcycle; he passed through a police barrier and was stopped. He did not have the custom papers on the motorcycle so they seized the motorcycle and took it to the customs office so he could purchase the correct custom papers. He did not have enough money to cover the cost of the papers so he came to us for help. Steve loaned him the money he needed to redeem his motorcycle. Matthew raises pigs and we will need some for the seminar. We will probably work out a deal on the sale of the pigs to cover the debt.
It is almost time for evening Bible study so I will close for now. Keep praying for us!
