I was on accounting duty again today! A few minutes ago, I finished entering the receipts for the Child Center. We actually have 2 sets of books to keep up with; the ones for the Child Center and the ones for everything else which includes the evangelistic side of things, the building, and everyday expenses. This is fun stuff! I know that you are envious of the fun stuff we get to do!
Steve spent part of the day working on the stuff for the monthly class tomorrow; that is after he finished at the Child Center. He also tried to work on his continuing education class material but I left him in the office alone with Skeeter so he finally abandoned his class work! He probably needed a break anyway and Skeeter was providing it!
This afternoon Steve went to town and bought new light bulbs; there is a problem with one of the security lights and the light in the bathroom is flickering! You know they say that flickering lights can throw a person into a seizure! If in the next Yendi Notes I write and tell you that I have had a seizure you will know it is the fault of that light in the bathroom! Ha!
Timothy Niligrini has gone to Tamale. Timothy is also a tailor. The Ghana government has started a new program for apprentices. Timothy has had apprentices for several years but the government is now going to pay the Masters to teach the apprentices. Timothy qualifies to have either 5 or 6 apprentices at one time. He is excited about the program. He and his apprentices went to Tamale yesterday for an orientation and to find out more about the program. The way Timothy understands the program upon completion the students will receive a sewing machine. I told him that it seemed like they would need the sewing machine upfront if they were going to learn to sew. Maybe they will give them light sewing machines to learn on and upon graduation maybe they will get an industrial machine. He will know more when he gets back from the meeting.
A friend or cousin of Zorash’s has been accepted to some sort of program. He needs a long-sleeved white shirt, black tie, black trousers, white bed sheet, white pillow case, blanket of any color, black shoes, black belt; I cannot remember all the other things he needed. Zorash asked if we had any of the items. We only had a few things on the list. We had a white sheet and pillow case and a blanket. Hopefully they can come up with the rest of the items before it is time for him to report.
Take care,
In HIS Service,
Steve, Kandie and Skeeter
The Monkeyshines
I did not feel very well today! I did not drink my first bottle of milk until 11:00 this morning. I drank a bottle this afternoon but it was not very good; Mom had to really coax me to get me to drink it. Then Dad went to town and bought some barbecued sheep! It was very greasy! Mom gave me a piece; after I ate it, I threw up! It was nasty! I don’t think that monkeys are supposed to eat sheep! Let’s think about this! Where in the wild would a monkey find roasted sheep meat to eat? I don’t think that if you Googled “What do Monkeys eat?” that the answer would come back “SHEEP MEAT”! NOPE! I am pretty sure that would not even make it in the top 1,000 answers!
I did feel better after I threw up! You know some of the people here do not eat “pig meat”. Mom told me that one time, a long time ago, her mom cooked pig meat and she gave the leftovers to Mr. Iddrisu. She did not even think about him being a Muslim and that pig meat is taboo for them. Mr. Iddrisu ate the meat and took the plate back to the house and thanked her for the meat. He then asked what type of meat it was; when he found out that it was pig meat it made him throw up!
Sheep meat is taboo for me!
Love, Skeeter
