Today was Yendi’s big market day. We were not aware that it was market day until we were in the market and had a hard time finding a place to park. I needed tomatoes and cabbage for lunch so we headed to the market at 11:00. It is a good thing that we took our hats with us this morning because the sun was brutal! We did our shopping as quickly as we could; no need to walk around in that throng of humanity any longer than necessary!
While we were in town Steve stopped at the lumber yard and ordered 10 church benches. There is a carpenter at the lumber company that not only helps sell lumber but he also makes benches, tables and other items. We can buy benches premade in Yendi but the quality is just not there. Steve gives the benches to the churches that we visit and he wants them to be good and strong. It will only take the guy a couple days to get the benches built. Steve buys the lumber and nails and pays for the cutting and planning. He then pays the guy 30 Cedis for each bench he makes. 30 Cedis is a little less than 3 dollars. The lumber and nails cost about 28 dollars; 30 dollars is not bad for a bench.
We also stopped and bought electrical units. Our meter is a pre-paid meter so we have to keep an eye on the amount of units we use so that we can buy before we run out. We love the pre-paid meters! The accounting system for the electric company stinks and when we had the post-paid meter, they were always shutting off the electricity because their accounts said that we were in arrears when we were not. They were several months behind in their bookkeeping. The pre-paid meters have stopped all that nonsense!
Steve spent part of the day working on the monthly evangelist report. He had written ½ of it the other day and this morning when he tried to work on it, he could not find it and he was afraid that he was going to have to start over from scratch. We finally located it; it had been saved with some other documents. These computers are wonderful but they can be aggravating when things go wrong!
Enjoy your weekend!

The Monkeyshines
My life took a turn for the better this morning. When I woke up, I realized that last night when Dad put my food in my jail cell, he forgot to lock the door. The food door rolls out so that the food can be put in without anyone escaping. The door has a padlock. Once before I almost escaped through the little door when Mom was cleaning my food dish. Imagine my surprise and joy when I was able to push it open in the wee hours of the morning. I had the time of my life running from tree to tree! I climbed up in the big mango tree; I climbed up on the tree beside my jail cell and repeatedly jumped onto the roof of the jail. The roof is a sheet of metal and it makes the most wonderful horrible sound when I jump on it! I was knocking leaves and seeds off all the trees as I ran through them. You should have seen the shocked look on the parent’s faces when they came out for their morning walk and found me running through the trees free as a bird! Needless to say, they could not go on their walk with me running free! There was no way that I was going to come to them voluntarily! I am smarter than that. They tried to coax me into eating from their hands; they tried getting me interested in my toys. I enjoyed teasing them; I would run up and bounce off their legs; run past the chairs they were sitting in and get as close to them as I could without them catching me. Finally, Dad climbed in my jail cell; I could not take him being in my jail cell because I did not know what he was doing in there. As soon as he came out, I darted in to see what he had done and he shut the cage door. I was sad because my fun was over! Mom was sad for me too! She told Dad that it was not fair that I had been caught in my cage; I really like my jail cell and she was afraid that I would not want to go in next time. She immediately took me out and they decided to walk around the property instead of out in the town for their morning walk.
The walk was great fun for me; I did very little walking! Mostly I rode on Dad’s shoulder. Mom caught a grasshopper so I had a tasty breakfast! The hawks were in the back field and they tried to dive bomb us! I believe they are big enough to snatch up a little monkey! The mango tree, on the back of the property, had a few ripe mangos so I snacked on one as we walked back to the house.
What a great morning!
Love, Skeeter
