It was good to have Steve back in the Child Center this morning. It always makes the day go smoother when everyone is there. As soon as we walked in the Center we smelled mouse urine! Not a good thing. We cleaned off all the shelves and washed everything down with bleach. We did not find any mice but we found their “leavings”! We also found a bag of Cerelac that someone had been nibbling on. Meri is very afraid of mice; she was not much good moving the things off the shelves because she thought one was going to jump on her. But after the shelves were clear she was a good cleaner. At least it smells better now. We are going to buy a large plastic container of some sort to put the Cerelac in.
Divine, the evangelist, stopped by for a visit this afternoon. He did not need anything; he just wanted to see how the thatching was coming along and to get a drink of cold water. He does not have electricity in his village and he loves cold water.
Today was the first day of the monthly class; we went out this afternoon to greet the brothers and to pay those that were able to come in. There is still fighting and a tribal dispute in the Chereponi area. Nana had already called to tell us that he would not be able to come; they are still under a curfew from 6:00 in the evening to 6:00 in the morning. Nana is a Chokosi and the dispute is between the Chokosi and the Konkomba tribes. The dispute has not come to the Yendi area. Daniel Batoln is from the area of the fighting but he was able to make it in this morning. He said that the fight came to the village next to them and they were running up and down from place to place trying to stay safe. Several people have been killed. The military is there and the Ya-Naa called them to the palace to talk about peace. Not sure that it is going to do much good.
The cell phone service has a method of sending money through the phone service. We tried to send Nana his pay but something was wrong with the network and Steve could not send it. We will have to try again tomorrow.
After Steve paid the guys Timothy rode back to town with us. His motorcycle is in the shop; something was wrong with the kick start and there was a small fuel leak in the carburetor. Solomon the motorcycle mechanic thinks he got everything fixed.
I can’t remember if I told you that Rita, Timothy’s wife, is pregnant; this will make number 4 for them. Sarah, their youngest is around 3 years. They have 2 girls and one boy so I am sure that they are hoping for another boy.
Thank you for all you do for us.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
