Hurrah! We are finally finished with the audit after umpteen-dozen trips to Tamale. Well, actually we have been finished for over a month but the accountant has finally finished his portion of the work. They call this an audit but it is more like filing or IRS taxes. The government requires every company to fill out “annual return forms” and attach a copy of the accounting for the year. We tried to do returns ourselves but the Registrar General did not want us to do our own so we had to hire an accountant to check over our bookkeeping and to fill the forms for us. We asked the Registrar General why we had to hire an accountant and he said that they had been trained to do the work and they needed to be allowed to do the work they were trained to do. He actually rejected the first accountant we hired! And then there is that! The accountant still has to turn in the audit but we have paid all the fees so our part is done.
We spent the night in Tamale so we could run some errands before we returned to Yendi. We were at the bank just a few minutes after they opened this morning and we sure were glad we got there early because they were busy today.
We picked up 10 more gallons of water proof paint and 2 rolls of chicken wire. The small goats are crossing between our fence and the neighbor’s house. We don’t even have goats and we have to keep securing the fences to keep them out. The truth of the matter is that the goats don’t belong to our neighbor either; they are just goats that are roaming around freely because the owners don’t want to tie them. If they tie the goats or put them on a rope they would have to feed them. The goats just come in the mission property and eat our bushes, plants and Nazo’s cassava.
Steve was particularly happy when he found out that the man that sold us the generator for the house had finally gotten the filters. The generator takes special filters that are only available in Accra. He picked up oil so he will be able to change the oil when he changes the filters. Steve will have something else to add that to his “To Do List”.
We looked for black board paint but could not find any. Many of the churches’ black boards need to be repainted. They use the carbon out of spent batteries to recolor the boards but it does not last very long and it gets all over you when you are trying to use the black board and please do not lean on the board or it will ruin your clothes!
We stopped at the little office supply store to get some ink cartridges. I had to hold myself back from buying a file cabinet. We desperately need another one but I just could not let go of the money! Ha!
Take care and thank you for the prayer, love and support! We appreciate all you do for us!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
