Yendi Notes

Steve left the house at 6:00 this morning to pick up the pigs.  He said that the big pig at Jagrido had to be shot twice before it died.  Of course we had to pay for both the bullets.  Ha!  When Steve brought the big pig to the butchers at Kulkpeni they were amazed at how big the pig was.  They said that it would have lots of meat but we know that it will just have more fat.  We made several trips out to Kulkpeni today; the last time we went the ladies were almost finished cooking the meat.  They cook it until it is very dry and has given up all the fat.  They say that it preserves the meat and they can use it for the next 3 days without it spoiling with no refrigeration.  They prepare the meat the same way every year and no one has gotten sick yet.

The canopies are set in place and the chairs are ready to be set out.  This year we rented 300 chairs instead of 200.  They will also use the church benches and pews.  The children will sit on tarps under the shade tree.

Richard and Joe, our guest speakers, arrived around noon today.  They have had a long hard trip.  They have been traveling by bus for a couple days to get here.  As soon as they got to the mission house they wanted a shower.  We opened the apartment for them and told them to make themselves at home.

Later this afternoon Steve took Richard to town in search of a barber.  They found one near the mission house and Richard made himself look presentable again.  He will probably visit the man a few more times before he leaves.

Steve had to make one last trip to Kulkpeni because we forgot to take the bread for breakfast in the morning.  There are a few people that will spend the night tonight because they come early to get everything set up.  They will be fed breakfast in the morning but the first big meal that will be prepared is tomorrow at lunch.

Please keep the seminar in your prayers and say a special prayer for those that are traveling to and from the seminar.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
