Red, the guy that made the spikes for the cement picket fence along the front of the property, just left.  He and his helper attached several more sections of spikes this afternoon.  He has more than half of them put up.  I told him that he was going to have to make some for the gates.  There is no need in securing the fence if someone can crawl over the metal gates.   He said that he would design something for the gates.  We also commissioned him to bring us a load of gravel and take 2 loads to Nazo’s house.  Nazo’s property borders the mission property in the back.  Nazo said that the erosion had completely destroyed the road in front of his house.  The road runs along the cement wall that separates the two properties.  Nazo was happy that we were going to have gravel dumped in front of his house.  We told him that it would be his responsibility to level the gravel after it is dumped.

Zorash came to work early this morning because she wanted to get a head start on making the soy bean kabobs.  She is desperately trying to figure out a way that I can make them for our kids and grandkids when we go home for our leave.  After the soybeans soak overnight they are taken to the grinding mill and ground into mush.  Today we ground them with an emersion blender.  Well, the blender ground the soybeans but it got very hot.  I was afraid if we had many more to blend we would have burned up the blender!  The pulp is mixed with lots of water and strained through a fine mesh cloth.  Then the milk is heated and Epsom salts is added to make it curdle.  The curd is then pressed to make a firm slab of curd.  After that the curd is cut and deep fried.  Then we made a stew of tomatoes, onions, garlic, chicken bouillon, curry powered and oil.  Then the stew is put over the cubes.  The whole thing is then heated again.  Then the cubes are put on skewers with onions and roasted over an open fire.  They were delicious and tasted just like meat kabobs but I have to ask is it really worth all that work?

Does anyone know how to get bird poop out of a sheet?  I had the sheets hanging on the line this morning and a bird pooped on one of the light colored ones.  We hand washed it a couple times and then we washed it in the machine but it is still stained.  Wonder what that bird had been eating!  The sheet is not a light enough color to bleach.

The abandoned baby that we have been feeding for almost a year died.  The baby had been abandoned on a dump heap.  The mother was never found.  The lady who has been taking care of the baby said that the baby got very sick and was anemic; the case was serious enough that the baby was sent to the hospital in Tamale.  The baby was given blood but it was too sick to live.  Steve said he figures that it was a severe case of malaria.  The lady came to the Child Center this morning to let us know what had happened and why she would no longer be visiting the Center.  So Sad!

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
