John, the mason was not around the jobsite today because today was the last day of Kwabena, the night watchman’s father’s funeral.  John left some men working to set the doors on the second set of toilets and to set the final decorative blocks on the top.  The doors looked terrible!  Imagine 4 doors set in a row and not one of them was the same height!  Steve called John and told him he was not happy with the doors but I am not sure there is anything that can be done about it at this point.  Timothy, the electrician, started wiring the buildings today.  We had to make 3 trips out to Kulkpeni today just to get everything that Timothy asked for and to replace the things that he asked for that would not work.

We had to run the generator all night because something was wrong with our electricity.  It went off at 7:00 pm but all of our neighbors had electricity.  When Steve went to the electric company to report the outage, they told him that there were no outages in our area and that he should call an electrician.  Sayibu came and the breaker on the meter on the utility pole had kicked off.  It was a quick fix but why is the meter so far out of reach?  While Sayibu was here Steve had him rework some of the security lights and a plug.

We got the green truck out of the shop this afternoon.  Gomda said the electrician said that it was the starter.  I flat out told him that was not what was causing the drain on the battery; he laughed and agreed but he said that he wanted to believe what the electrician said.  I then told him I knew what was causing the battery to die; I told him that it was because I opened and closed the door too many times and that caused the battery to die.  His eyes got huge and he said, “That could never be the problem!”  You want to believe that a bad starter will cause a dead battery just because someone said so; now I want you to believe that opening and closing the door too many times will cause a dead battery!  He started laughing so hard!  He said, “I get you!”  We all had a good laugh!

It was very hot today; the high temperature was 103 degrees with a heat index of 126 degrees.  We are hoping for rain but we are at the end of the wet season so the rains will be few and far between.

This afternoon we finally got the stickers for the green truck!  We were happy to be able to drive it again.  This morning, we had to load 48 boards on the top of the van,10 boards inside along with 20 metal roofing sheets and the conduit because we did not have the green truck.   This afternoon we loaded 40 cases of formula, 10 cases of baby cereal and 2 cases of powdered milk in the van.  We have been on the road most of the day.  We did not eat lunch until 2:30 this afternoon.  We were about to sit down to lunch when Zorash called and said that a lady was selling peanuts near her house; we needed them to make the Peanut Protein Paste for the malnourished children.  We ate our lunch before we bought the peanuts.

Enjoy your day!

The Monkeyshines

Mom is so proud of me!  I have been foraging for myself!  She taught me well!  This morning while I was playing on the veranda, I found a decayed piece of wood that was full of termites.  I carried it up on the charcoal grill and proceeded to tear it apart and eat the termites one by one as they ran out of the wood!  You know I have resisted eating the termites but when they keep being forced upon you eventually you decide that they taste pretty good!  I got my protein for the day!  I also jumped on a few crickets today but I did not eat those; maybe one day I will be hungry enough to eat those too but I doubt it!

I did not get to spend as much time today with the parents as I usually do so they are going to let me stay up late tonight because Mom is not cooking supper because lunch was so late.  We are going to watch a movie. I hope that it is not as scary as yesterday’s movie; that movie had both dogs and horses in it!  I can’t take the dogs and horses; there was a lady in the movie that walked dogs for a living!  Can you imagine any worse job?  She walked the dogs on the beach and there were people riding horses on the beach; I had to hide under the covers!

Can you even make a living walking dogs?
