Jack and Dahlia got to the states before we got to Yendi. We got up this morning at 3:45 so we would be ready when Bismark came to the hotel to pick us up. Bismark was on time and there was hardly any traffic going to the airport.
Check in was supposed to start at 4:30; they were a little late opening the check in counter. Our flight was not scheduled to leave until 6:30. We wanted to take the earliest flight we could get because we needed to get the new truck’s yearly inspection and get the road worthy sticker. We also needed to go to the telephone office. At 7:00 we were told that our flight on Africa World Air had been delayed. At 9:00 we were told that the flight had been cancelled. As soon as we heard the flight had been cancelled we rushed downstairs and went to the ticket counter. We knew that there was a very good chance that the plane would not fly at all and everyone would be scrambling for the next available seat. We were the first ones to the counter. I got the refund while Steve went to a different airline (Passion Air) to purchase tickets. The next available flight was at 3:30 pm. We made the right decision in changing airlines because Africa World Air’s 9:30 flight was also cancelled. There was some discussion about Africa World Air trying to find a different plane for their 3:00pm flight. After we secured tickets on Passion Air we went to baggage claim to find our checked luggage.
We had to stay in the airport because we had a large suitcase and 5 smaller bags; there was no way we could lug them around Accra shopping or site seeing. We had a long day doing nothing in the airport. Actually we found an outlet in a little chop bar; I hooked up the computer and sorted and labeled photographs from years gone by. Some of the photographs went back to 2008. It was a nice trip down memory lane.
We finally made it to Tamale about 4:30 this afternoon. Red had just as bad a day as we did. He had nothing to do but hang around Tamale airport. Steve sent Red the money to get the inspection and road worthy sticker for the new truck. That is the only errand that we got done because as soon as we landed we left for Yendi. We had to drive part of the way in the dark but we arrived safely around 7:30 pm.
Steve has talked to Dahlia’s mother; she got home safely. We have not talked to Jack yet; he will not get home until a little later; there is a 6 hour time difference between here and Tennessee.
Thank you for your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
