I needed some cotton fabric for one of the quilts that I am working on. I needed a solid fabric to break up all the wild vibrant colors and add some consistency to the quilt. 100% cotton fabric is hard to come by. I found some in Tamale but the only color they had was white. The people use it to make Batik fabric. The fabric that they stamp a design on with bees wax before it is dyed. We decided that since today was Yendi’s big market day we might find some 100% cotton sheets. We went to the vendors that sell sheets and pillowcases. After much digging we found several that should work. I really needed solid blue fabric which I did not find but we got grey, beige and a light teal color. If the sheets don’t match what I am working on we will give the fabric to Timothy for his child dress making project. We found a bunch of flannel sheets. Can you imagine a flannel sheet in this heat?
Mr. Alhassan, the social welfare officer for our area stopped by the Child Center this morning for a visit. He was surprised at the number of mothers and babies that were waiting to be seen. Steve took advantage of his visit to give him a copy of the Social Welfare report that we sent in last month. He uses the report to add to the annual report he has to send in. He is such a nice guy and appreciates all the Child Center does for the children in our area.
Timothy Niligrini stopped by this afternoon to pick up some money to repair his motorcycle. He called Steve yesterday and said that the motorcycle had no brakes. Now that is a serious problem. Timothy was still riding the motorcycle. He was using his feet to stop it. Fortunately Timothy is a very careful driver; actually he drives like an old man which is a good thing if you have no brakes. Imagine how many pairs of shoes you would wear out if you were using your feet for brakes. By the end of the day Timothy’s motorcycle was fixed and the brakes are working again.
Steve has been working on the monthly report for September but he did take a little break this afternoon and helped me iron the quilt blocks. I love to sew but I hate cutting out and I hate ironing. I doubt that I actually qualify as a seamstress! Ha!
Steve opened the top of the big poly tank and put a blower in the exit hole to make sure that there was fresh air in the poly tank. We use pool chlorine in the tank. We did not want Mr. Oldman to be overcome with chlorine fumes when he climbs down in the tank.
Please keep us in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
