Today is our anniversary.  If we counted the years correctly we have been married for 41 years.  There is not much to do over here in the way of celebration but I did get a new used sewing machine yesterday that needed to be repaired so we will consider that our anniversary present.

First thing this morning Steve loaded up more of the used tin roofing sheets that we took off the mission house last month when they put on the new roof and took them out to Kulkpeni.  Last night we heard the brother of Tichak, the night watchman had lost the roof on 3 of rooms on his house.  When Steve arrived with the building material they were so happy with the gift.  They did not even care that the roofing sheets were used.  Last night Tichak said that they had spent all their money plowing their fields and planting and they did not know where they were going to get the money to repair the roof.  Tichak and his brothers went to the bush yesterday and cut Neem trees to use for the rafters.  Steve also took them roofing nails and felt.

Two of the fans that Mr. Adams had repaired for us after they got wet when the roof was off the mission house were wired incorrectly and they ran backward.  We took them back to Mr. Adams this afternoon.  It only took them about 5 minutes to disconnect the wires and fix them correctly.   He did not want us to pay him anything for the workmanship because they were the ones that had made the mistake but that did not seem quite fair so we gave them a little gift so they could buy something to eat.

While we were in town we stopped at the pharmacy and bought 4 cases of liquid vitamins for the children that come to the Child Center.  Earlier in the day Steve bought a new back pack sprayer.  It is time for Nazo to spray herbicide on the back part of the mission property so Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu can start planting cassava.  He also picked up the herbicide.  This year we are going to try something new.  We are going to spray on a combination of pre-emerge and post-emerge weed killer.  We hope that will give longer coverage against the weeds.  We think that we will be putting on the first herbicide before the new grass has a chance to go to seed.  Of course we are not farmers so this is just trial and error.

Take care and thank you for your generous donations so we can help the storm victims.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
