Yendi Notes

We spent most all day putting a file cabinet together!  Can you imagine?  All day, well it was really more like off and on all day!  I usually enjoy putting something together; I am the one that actually uses the directions but these directions were the worst we have ever seen.  Drawings only!  Absolutely no words; which is probably a good thing because who knows what language they would have been written in.  In our defense for the length of time it took to put it together it is a rather involved file cabinet.  It has a hidden safe in the top drawer; pretty neat idea but rather cheaply made; a good screwdriver is all it would take to open it.  I think we will use if for semi-important papers.  We had lots of interruptions while we were working.

Divine stopped by this afternoon to let us know that he had successfully registered his new motor king.  Oh! I almost forgot to tell you that Divine finished his “distance learning” and graduated.  He now will be able to teach for the government and actually collect a salary.  The only problem is that after completing his classes he is required to do a couple years of national service for the government before he can seek his own employment.  Of course their pay is not much but the biggest problem is that they posted him far away from home and far away from the school at Kpamang that he started several years ago.  They posted him to a place in the western region over near WA!  It takes about 8 hours to get there.  Divine has put in an appeal and written a formal letter begging them to let him come to Kpamang.  We are hoping that it will work out for him.

Aliu, the young man that we helped get an artificial leg several years ago, came to the mission house to pick up the money we promised him to get his artificial leg repaired.  He is going to leave tomorrow.  He will have to stay in Nsawam for 3 days for them to do the repairs.  He is such a pleasant guy and so appreciative that we helped him when no one else could.  We pass his thanks on to those of you that help with “whatever comes up”!

Daniel Batoln, the evangelist, and one of the church leaders came to say “Hello”.  Daniel said that everything in his area is going well.  He wanted to know where Germany was.  Steve got out a map of the world and had a little geography class while they were here.

Red, our part time driver, came rushing to the mission house this afternoon.  He was on a mission.  He wanted to make sure that we were safe.  He was so upset about the armed robbers that attacked the money changer in the market.  He knows that we know the man and have changed money with him.  He wanted to make sure that we knew that we should not open the door to anyone that we did not know and that we should always keep the doors locked.  Is that sweet or what?  He is not so worried about us when the watchmen and day man are here; just when we are here alone.  We don’t feel like we are in any particular danger.

It is raining and the electricity has already gone off once so I will close and save this before I lose it!

Have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
