Yendi Notes

We are tired!  What a day!  We actually had a wonderful day that ended with 26 baptisms.  Most of the people that were baptized were teenagers.  We loaded them up in the vehicles and took them down to the Daka River to be baptized.  We pulled both vehicles as close to the edge of the river as we could so the head lights could shine across the water.  The men checked closely for snakes and crocodiles before they entered the water.  It did not take very long to do the baptisms because 3 men were baptizing at the same time.  It was quite a glorious sight.  When they got out of the water they were all shivering because they were cold.  Can you imagine being cold in this heat?  The high temperature today was 111 degrees.

The men doing the registration for the seminar finished their tallies today and 416 people were registered.  Members from 33 congregations attended the seminar.

The cooks did not have enough meat for the evening meal so we bought 67 pounds of chicken.  We were not alerted to the fact that the meat would not be enough until 3:30 this afternoon.  We got it to the cooks as soon as we could but it was frozen solid.  Matthew said he was going to get a machete and hack it into pieces so the cooks could get it fried.  They also ran out of tomato paste and plastic bags to put the food in.  Instead of using paper plates or foam take away containers they use plastic bags.  No silverware is given out because everyone eats with their hands.

Today we had lots of questions about polygamy, marriage, divorce and remarriage.  These are topics that are a serious problem for the churches in this area.  The people loved our visitors.  Richard and Joe did a great job.  They had a good time and want to come back.

Richard and Joe will be leaving early in the morning.  They are going to catch the first bus to Tamale which is supposed to leave at 4:30am.  It will take them 8 or 9 hours to get home after their 2 hour trip to Tamale.

Please keep all those that will be traveling home from the seminar in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
