Yendi Notes
Today was the monthly class day. Some of the brothers had a hard time getting to class because of the water. A couple of them had to get in a canoe to cross the flooded river. Now that is dedication! I don’t believe I would be going anywhere if I had to get in an overloaded homemade canoe to cross a large body of water. They even put bicycle and motorcycles in these canoes and yes some of them capsize. Noah from Waddiig cannot swim and is afraid of water so we will not see him until after the rainy season is over.
We finally got enough money to buy Bible readers for all the evangelists and church leaders. We buy them as we get money to purchase them. We have been collecting them for a couple years. We put them in our luggage as we have room. We wanted to wait until we had enough to give to all the men so no one would have their feelings hurt. These Bible readers look like a tape recorder. They have the New Testament recorded on them in their own language. They are a very clever design. They can be charged with regular electricity, they also have a solar panel so they can be charged by the sun, and they also have a hand crank generator. Many of the people in this area do not have electricity so this device is perfect. The men were very happy with the Bible readers. The plan is for the men to use the reader along with their Konkomba Bible so they will learn to read very well. Sometimes they have to struggle so hard to read that they miss the meaning of what they are reading.
Nazo got the yard sprayed for weeds this morning which makes me very happy. We don’t like to have grass in the yard because snakes like tall grass. If there is a snake in the yard we want to be able to see it!
You know that I wanted the handicapped tricycle painted red and I even bought a gallon of red paint so it would be red; well yesterday when we saw Red the guy that is painting the tricycle he told me that most Ghanaians don’t like pure red because it has too much red so he mixed the paint with the ugly beige paint to make it not so red! I told him I wanted it to be red; he said well it is still somehow red. I leaned over to Steve and told him that if he mixed the paint the best we could hope for was a pinky-rose color. After we went to the funeral we stopped by to see what color the tricycle was. It was not too bad. It is a color I can live with; more like a rosy beige color. It is amazing to me that you can’t just do what we are paying you to do! I told him that I wanted him to hurry up and get it painted so we could take it to Asana. She does not know we are making her a tricycle. Presently her friends push her around town in her wheelchair.
My brother Buz came through his surgery with no problems. Thank you for the prayers. Our friends Toby and Bethany had a baby girl today after Bethany had to endure a couple months of bed rest in the hospital. We are proud that the baby is here and healthy!!
