We had a house full of church leaders today! The first one arrived at quarter to six. We had not even gotten dressed when he came. He called to let us know he was standing outside the gate. He rode his motorcycle. He lives several hours away from Yendi. He said that he left his house this morning shortly after 3:30. He said that it was totally dark when he left and he had the road to himself. Shortly after he arrived others started coming. Steve told them that he would pay their transport and give them something extra for their pockets if they would come in. We felt sorry for them having to get up so early to get here and we knew they had not had time to eat and were hungry. We decided to fix them coffee, tea and bread for breakfast. Steve quickly went to town and bought 10 loaves of bread. We had tea, coffee, sugar, milk and some cookies in the pantry. You have never seen men that were so happy! You would have thought that we put on a full banquet for them. Most of the men ate a third of a large loaf of bread! I was busy making copies of their documents while Steve kept the tea kettle boiling. They went through tons of milk because almost every one of them mixed their coffee too strong and had to keep diluting it with milk. We told the men that they were eating at “Sister Kandie’s Chop Bar!”
Divine is the one heading up this project and he needed 3 men from 14 different congregations to come in this morning. Not every congregation was able to get 3 men to come on such short notice but most of them were able to organize themselves and get here early. Divine wanted to leave Yendi at 11:00 and he got away at 11:15. We dropped him off at the bus station just as they were about to leave. He bought the second to the last ticket. We are waiting to hear from him. Steve does not want to call him because he might still be in his meeting. Timothy came and spent the morning at the mission house visiting with the brothers.
This afternoon we counted payroll again. We have our portion finished. Mr. Iddrisu will count behind us and seal the envelopes on Saturday.
Late this afternoon we went to the market and bought dried corn, soybeans, and cow peas. Zorash is going to come on Saturday to make up the extra day she took off this week so she will wash the corn and soybeans. If the weather is nice on Monday we will roast the grain and get it ready to be ground into weaning mix.
Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
