We had a nice flight to Accra this morning.  We are always surprised at how quickly we can get to Accra when we fly.  It used to take between 14 and 15 hours to drive to Accra.  As soon as we dropped the luggage off at the apartment we rented for 2 days we headed to the “Ministries” building to turn in our forms for our Quota / Resident Visa renewal.  We sure are happy that we came down a day early because when Steve got to the ministries they told him that tomorrow and the next day are holidays because of the ending of the month long fast of the Muslims.  The documents are time sensitive and we are not sure what would have happened if we turned them in 2 months late.  We might have lost our resident visa status and had to start that long process all over.

The hotel that we have been staying at for years closed its doors.  Ben, the manager of the hotel has started managing an apartment complex.  He decided that they should rent the rooms that are not being uses out by the night.  We are trying the apartment to see how we like it.  The rooms are nice.  The one we rented has 2 bedrooms and a living room and 2 bathrooms.  The only thing we don’t like is that it is not close to the restaurants that we are used to going too.  We plan to go out tomorrow and walk around to see what we can find.

This afternoon we went to the carving / craft market.  We bought a few things.  My birthday is this month so Steve bought me my birthday present.  He bought me an antique piece of Kente cloth.  The cloth is hand woven by the people in the Ashanti region.  It is a beautiful piece of cloth and something that I do not have!   Imagine that!  The piece I got is about 8 yards and is a man’s cloth.  The men drape the cloth around their bodies leaving one shoulder bare.  They wear them for festivals and special occasions.  The clothes are passed down for generations.

We found a pharmacy near the apartment.  I forgot to bring my packet of pills.  I don’t like to travel without a supply of things we might need.  I bought Tylenol, Aleve and Benadryl and a small pill box.

Please continue to pray for us as we travel.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
