We had to go back to Tamale this morning to get the VELD, road worthy sticker, renewed for the red truck. We left the house at 6:30. While we were in Tamale we bought a wheel chair for the lady at the church in Nyankpala and we picked up ink cartridges for the printer and the receipt books we ordered.
Red, the part time driver was going to leave early this morning to start his trip to Accra to pick up my brother Paul. He had to stop in Tamale and take Paul’s truck to the VELD office to get it inspected and he also needed to renew his driver’s license. We arrived a few minutes before the VELD office open; Red was not around. We did our paper work and had the truck inspected before we saw Red walking into the parking lot. When we saw him without the truck we knew the thing had broken down. Red said that the clutch went out and that he managed to limp the vehicle into Tamale and that it was at the mechanic shop getting worked on. He was fortunate that he has a friend that works at the VELD office that helped him get the inspection papers and his license renewed without having to wait in line. We stayed in Tamale to make sure that he got the truck fixed. Steve called him about 3:30 and he had made it to Techiman. He said that the truck was running good. He was planning on spending the night in Kumasi. He does not want to drive in the night; it is not safe. He will get up early in the morning and continue on to Accra. If he does not have any more trouble he will get to the airport in Accra in time to pick Paul up. Paul’s flight gets in at 1:30.
This afternoon Iddrisu, the young man that lost both of his legs in a motor vehicle accident several years ago stopped by for a visit. He said that his prosthesis needed repaired and he only had part of the money he needed to get them repaired. Over the years we have helped him get repairs and new ones; thanks to your generosity for “whatever comes up” we will be able to help him again. He told Steve that he wanted to sell his handicapped tricycle because he has a motorized one. We want to buy it to give to Musa an 18 year old boy that was paralyzed in both of his legs from an illness. If it needs repairs Red will fix it for us.
We got back to the mission house shortly after noon. Steve spent the afternoon working on his lesson for the seminar. He hopes to finish it this evening so he can get on to doing other things like putting the new air conditioner in our bedroom!
We love you guys and appreciate all you do for us and for the work!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. Just talked to Red around 6 this evening and he had arrived in Kumasi.
