We started out the morning by working down at the Child Center at 8am.  Our appointment with the Regent at the palace was at 9am.   The liquid multivitamins supply was low and needed to be bottled so Meri and Iddrisu could man the Center while Zorash went with us to the palace. Osman the secretary for the Balogu Chief accompanied us to the Palace.

While we waited for Osman to make the necessary arrangements to have an audience with the Regent we were seated in the first round house connected to the palace.  This is the room where Regent’s horse is tethered and fed his grass. The old man who takes care of the three horses at the palace was questioned by Kandie as to how long he had the job and his responsibilities.  His father had cared for the palace horses and taught his son to do the same.

Once we were in the throne room with the Regent and his elders we were given kola nuts.  This is a custom that goes way back in time. When we visit the chiefs in the village we substitute money for the Kola nuts.  I took a small bite out of one kola nut. The Kola nut is chalked full of caffeine. It is so bitter it is difficult to eat; we just take a small bite to follow tradition.

After we finished at the palace we went to the House of Chiefs to finish the land paperwork.

When we got back to the mission house we paid the workers and headed to Tamale. Immigrations had informed us our passports were ready to be picked up.  Our first stop was at the Immigrations Office. We also stopped at Japan Motors.  A couple of the parts we had purchased to repair Timothy Niligrini’s motorcycle were not the right size.  The parts man is suppose to get back with me so we will see how this all works out.

We are staying at the hotel in Tamale tonight. Tomorrow morning we will try to get the rest of our business done before heading back to Yendi.

Please keep us in your prayers and we will do the same for you.  Have a good day!

In His service,

Stephen and Kandie Taylor
