We had to go to Tamale today! Going to Tamale is one of my least favorite things to do. The only good part about going is that there is better grocery shopping in Tamale than there is in Yendi. Today we found some Cheerios, olive oil and canned hotdogs. Now you might not be impressed with the thought of canned hotdogs but after we have been over here for about 3 months they taste pretty good. Of course there are no hotdog buns but cutting the crust off of a loaf of bread makes a fine substitute.
We were able to get almost everything marked off our list today; which is amazing! We stopped by the Land Commission office to check on the 50 year lease for the mission property and we were pleasantly surprised when they had our receipt ready and we actually got a little money back! They told us that the land papers were now being sent to Accra for filing and that might take a little time but they would call us when they were ready to be picked up. Hopefully it will be sometime this year!
Steve bought 5 cases of Bibles in the LIkpakpaaln which is the language that 30 of the churches use. They did not have any of the Anufo Bibles; we work with 6 churches that speak Anufo but we were excited that we found 3 of the Dagboni Bibles. We only work with one small church that speaks Dagboni and there are only a few readers in the congregation. When we visited this church on Sunday they requested a Dagboni Bible.
We had to make 3 trips to the Social Welfare office before we finally met Mrs. Hawa, the director and were able to deliver and pay for the renewal for the Child Center’s certificate. Mrs. Hawa is such a nice lady and a pleasure to do business with. We took her a small case of ink pens as a gift to share with the workers. It will be several weeks before we get the new certificate.
When we went to the telephone office about the money they owe us we were told that we had to bring them a letter describing our problem. Please! I told the lady that has been helping us that we had already given them 2 letters! She said that she had traveled to Mecca and had just returned and the letters were misplaced. Hope I can find our copy of the letter.
We need a couple new light fixtures for the store room off of our room. Steve looked all over Yendi for the light fixtures but could not find any. We did not have any better luck finding them in Tamale today; we went to 4 or 5 different shops but no one had any.
As we came back to Yendi we passed through Kulkpeni; one of the brothers saw us and assumed that because it was so late we would not be attending Bible study. They were pleasantly surprised when we showed up just minutes before they started.
Hope you have a good day.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
