I sat in front of the computer for hours today and when I was not working on the computer I was pouring over receipts. Steve helped me sort the receipts. I am running a bit behind but I almost have Novembers receipts balanced. Now I am in the process of pulling the receipts that we have to pay withholding tax on. It is the buyers’ responsibility to withhold the sales tax from the purchase. You have heard me complain about this before. No one would sell us anything if we did not pay the full price so what we end up doing is paying the tax ourselves. The withholding tax is supposed to be figured into the price of everything that is sold and paid by the seller. It is all a bit confusing. We do not pay unless the purchase is over 2,000 Cedis but the 2,000 Cedis is accumulative over the course of a whole year. It is necessary to keep track of each vendor that we buy from and how much we spend because the moment our purchases from an individual vendor exceeds 2,000 Cedis (about 375 dollars) we have to back track; pull the receipts and pay the withholding tax. I am not sure that this is not the government’s way of spreading the wealth around. We try not to exceed 2,000 Cedis from any vendor because we do not want to have to keep up with all that. When we pay the withholding tax we have to provide the name of the vendor, their tax ID number, the amount of the purchases and we have to figure the percentage that we owe. Really are we tax collectors? Obviously we are! Enough complaining!
Steve talked to Ray Hill’s wife Judy and she said that he was still in the hospital but he was doing better and might get to come home after the weekend! Oh! Happy day! Still keep him, the Irby’s and the others who are struggling with the Covid and other illnesses in your prayers. Our niece Tera has had several good days. Keep praying for her too. Our grandkids that had the Covid are doing much better; they are still tired and weak but getting better every day!
They finished all the room floors and the veranda floor today. They started working on what they call an “apron”. It is an extra row of blocks around the foundation that are plastered. Their purpose is to prevent erosion from getting to the foundation. It is a very clever idea. The mason thinks they will finish the building tomorrow. We are happy that everything has gone well with the building and no one has gotten sick or hurt.
Take care and keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
