Tomorrow is a national holiday; it is Ghana’s Independence Day. Last night, when Steve realized that Friday was a national holiday, he said that he doubted that the lawyer would be in his office and he did not want to make a trip to Tamale for nothing. Steve texted Dawda, the lawyer’s secretary this morning to find out if he would be working on the holiday. He said that he would not be at his office on Friday because he would be traveling back from Kumasi. I sure am happy that Steve had the forethought to contact Dawda; now we have a free day! Of course, we will have to make the trek to Tamale on Monday.
This morning, I asked Steve if he would help me enter the receipts for February. He was more than happy to help. Before he could start physically entering the receipts I had to get the excel program updated with the 2026 information and bring last year’s ending balances forward. I had to rework a couple of the formulas which are always nerve racking and somewhat hit or miss. But in the end; SUCCESS! With Steve entering the receipts that freed me up to work on my quilt. I did not make much headway on the quilt but I figured out a couple things that I do not want to do with it. This quilt is an attic window; I am going to hang tiny premade dresses in each of the windows. I have never made an attic window quilt. I did not make the tiny dresses either. Last time I bought fabric scraps, I found all these tiny dresses (about the size of Barbie doll clothes). I found out that they were the samples of various sewing styles that the apprentices in the shop had to make in order to pass their exams. I could not help but buy all of them and the girls were more than happy to sell them. I have been trying to figure out what to do with them so I am going to make attic windows and hopefully the dresses hanging in the windows will make it look like you are looking in or out of a shop window. Now I have to figure out a clever name for my bouquet! Ha!
By late afternoon Steve had finished the receipts. You know now that he knows the process of entering the receipts, it might become his permanent job! I like that idea a lot!
We got another rain last night. It rained lightly almost all night long. We were able to catch ½ a cistern of water last night! The tractors started moving around this morning. The farmers do not own their own tractors; they hire someone to plow their fields so as soon as it rains there is a high demand for tractors. This rain was just a short reprieve from dry weather to come. Many farmers will plant after the first rain and the seed germinate but can’t grow because the dry season is not over yet.
Take care and have a great day!

I am tired! I did not get much sleep last night because the rain, thunder and lightning disturbed me! A couple times I thought that Mom was coming to rescue me because I could see her wandering around on the veranda in her night dress. I was disappointed when she wandered right back in the house. She had to keep cleaning out the screens on the gutter so that most of the water would flow down into the cistern. If the screens are not kept cleaned out the gutters will overflow and all the water will be lost. You know that on at least one of her trips outside she could have come to my jail cell and set me free. I would have loved to sleep with the parents while it was raining!
Mom did come out when it was sprinkling to feed me my last bottle of the day! That would have been the perfect time for her not only to feed me but to rescue me! Someone needs to tell her how dangerous it is for a baby monkey to be sitting inside a totally metal cage during a lightning storm! That may not be monkey abuse but I think it is definitely monkey neglect!
Someone, call the authorities!
Love, Skeeter
