We finally got the formula for the babies. The distributor brought the formula to Yendi and delivered it to the mission house. He was a very nice guy. We tried to pay him for his fuel but he would not take anything. He said that it was the least he could do considering we were freely feeding the orphan babies and children. He also told us that if we wanted to start ordering through him he would sell us the formula at the wholesale price. We are very excited about saving some money! Nothing makes me happier than getting a good deal on something! Of course on the down side, Abochi, the guy that we presently buy formula and cereal from will lose the sales. We know he will not be happy about that but if we can save money on the cost of the formula we will be able to feed more babies.
Steve only thought he was finished painting in the main house. This afternoon I mixed up some paint and we painted the outside of the bathtub. The tub is an insert that has been set in cement. We painted the cement and then painted the lower portion of the shower stall which is also cement. We painted it a darker color than the walls. The walls are a pale pink color and the lower part of the tub and shower showed every mark and always looked dirty. I think we are going to like the new darker color.
The electricity has been off all day. Steve left a few minutes ago to get another 6 gallon container of diesel. We want to be prepared in case it is off all night. It has been a long time since we have had lights off for this length of time. They are cutting the big trees at the hospital and we wonder if they knocked out the power. Those trees are filled with bats. We have been wondering where the bats will go; I sure hope they don’t come live on the mission property. We are already overrun with bats!
This morning Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu said that last night around 1:00am someone was riding around our area shooting a gun. No one knows why. They said they heard the same firing of a gun around the palace earlier in the night. We hope that Nazo will find out more about it when he goes to the palace this evening.
Divine decided to spend the night in Tamale so he could visit with his professor. He is taking some classes through the adult distance learning program. He hopes to finish sometime this year. When he finishes he will have a teacher’s certificate and be able to teach at the government schools. He will make a good teacher.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support. Feel free to share the notes with anyone that might be interested.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
