It took us two hours to get to our southern destination this morning. We went to the village of Kakpande which is located in the Nanumba District. I was happy to see the congregation sitting under the large shade tree because I knew the small church building would be hot today.
One of the men of the congregation taught the Bible class. During the course of discussion someone brought up the subject of dreams. The Fetish priests love to use dreams to extract money and animal sacrifices from their pagan followers because that is how they make a living and they get to eat the meat that is sacrificed. The people’s need to have their dreams interpreted give the Fetish priest job security, you might say. I took the opportunity to explain how and why we dream and that our brains never stop working even when asleep. One brother spoke up saying he was told by the Fetish priest that he had to make a sacrifice for the twins or he would die. For your information; in the past history in the North twins were thought to bring a curse so many twins were eliminated thus eliminating the chance of a curse being put on the parents of the newborn babies. The father told the man he was a Christian and he wouldn’t sacrifice and he wouldn’t die either. It was a very interesting class.
This morning we gave the congregations a Konkomba Bible, a pad and pen, cups, juice and bread. In addition we presented a metal strong box for the Church’s important papers and a plastic communion cup holder to replace their broken one.
The “key and padlock” lesson was a great encouragement to the congregation. Many of the men voiced their appreciation for the lesson. It is simple and to the point; just like Christ’s parables.
After services the men informed us the well that had been drilled many years ago by the well drillers was having a repeat repair problem. The well is vital because it provides clean drinking water to the whole village. We gave the Church some money to hire a new repairman to see if he can fix the problem.
We were treated to a lunch of Fufu and light soup with fish. Kandie was quick to change pots with Timothy because ours had more fish in it than Timothy’s had. Timothy was happy to have the fish and we were happy for him!!! The Church also presented us with some yams and a nice guinea fowl. Of course later we re-gifted them to Timothy.
After we arrived safely back at the compound Kandie and I spent the remainder of the afternoon working on the IRS papers.
We hope you had a great Lord’s Day. I know we did. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
