It seems like almost everyone in Ghana has heard that President Trump and the First Lady have the Coronavirus. Our friends have been giving us well wishes about the President like we were best buddies. So sweet!
All the workers came to work this morning except Nazo because his days off are Sunday and Monday. The ladies that work here were happy that we were back. If one of the female workers has a baby / child that is still breastfeeding they bring them to work with them. Meri brought her new baby this morning. The baby is a girl; she is cute and plump; just the way we like to see them. I can’t remember the baby’s name; it was something I had not heard of before. It is a Muslim name. Meri and Amama busied themselves cleaning out the guest round house with the thatch roof. The small bats have made a home behind the fuse box. Steve is going to spray the round house and the thatch in hopes of making them want to find a new home! Bats smell just like rats and mice.
Steve has been working on changing the lock on the door to the master sitting room. We are having a difficult time opening the lock and it is only a matter of time before it fails completely and we are either locked in our room or out of our room. I would prefer to be locked in so I could catch up on my sewing!
We went to Boat’s air condition shop this afternoon and picked up a condemned refrigerator. When I say it is condemned it is really condemned. There is no door handle; the hinges have been replaced with door hinges, it is rusted, the door will not shut completely and most of the shelves are missing. I think it will work out beautifully for our project! Who would every think there was anything of value in such a dilapidated fridge?
We talked to Mr. Iddrisu about some of the changes that we want to make. He thought most of them were good ideas but he did not like the idea of getting a dog. You know there are these alarms that sound like barking dogs. I wonder if a thief would know the difference between the alarm and a real dog. We might check out the alarms. Nothing to feed and no poop to clean up! It might be a win, win situation. I think an alarm would wake up the watchmen.
We went back to the GRA (Ghana Revenue Authority) this morning to see about getting the Tax Clearance Certificate. We did not have success but I think we might be one step closer to getting the certificate. We gave them the documents they requested but they could not do anything about getting the Tax ID number because the network was down. They took Steve’s phone number and told us they would call sometime.
As we were leaving the GRA office we ran into one of the doctor’s from Yendi hospital. We asked him how the Covid had been since we left. He said that he believes that all the doctors and nurses at the hospital had it; anyway they tested positive; some were asymptomatic. He said that they did the contact tracing and almost all the family members and those that lived in the compounds with them tested positive. He said they lost the trail when they got to the market. How can you contact trace when women enter the market? The place is so crowded; everyone is touching everything; no one is social distancing or masking.
Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
