Warihana’s father came back to the Child Center this morning. He had the results of her last visit to the bone doctor. She is the 12 year old that has osteomyelitis in her leg. As we suspected the infection has not yet completely gone away. They are going to do another surgery to see if they can clean up the infection. Getting information from the doctors is very difficult especially when the caregiver of the patient is illiterate and intimidated by the whole hospital scene. The doctor could not even give Warihana’s father a rough estimate of the cost of the procedure that he wants to do on the 19th of September. He is going to go back to Tamale Tuesday and talk to the doctor again to see if he can tell him something. We don’t even know how to begin to prepare to help if we don’t have an estimated cost and time frame for the hospital stay.
This afternoon we ran into Divine in town and told him that we had gotten some additional money to help with the school kitchen at Kpamang. After we talked to him we decided that it would be best if we bought the items and gave them to the school rather than giving the school money. We bought 2 huge cook pots; they look like witches cauldrons. We went to the shop that sells plastic 55 gallon drums but they had already closed for the day. We will try to get it tomorrow. The plastic drum will be used in the outdoor kitchen for water. The cooks will use the water for cooking, washing dishes and for the children to drink. The older girls will be responsible for fetching the water from the dam. When Divine comes to pick up the items we will buy a few bags of cement to floor the cook shed.
While we were buying the pots we spied a larger than normal pot. The owner of the pot said that it was a special order that was sent up from Kumasi but when it came time for the person that ordered it to pay for the pot they wanted to buy it on credit; the pot owner refused to sell it on credit. Guess who is the new owner of a humongous pot? I could not resist buying it; we can use it at the seminar and now I have bragging rights! Ha!
We have started working on the end of the month receipts; such fun stuff. At least the Child Center is closed tomorrow so we should be able to finish the books tomorrow.
Thank you for all that you do for us and for the work we appreciate your help!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
