We started roasting the grain this morning but it was slow go because it was still wet.  It usually takes about 2 ½ hours to roast one load of grain but today it took 4 hours.  The second load took even longer because we did not realize that we had run out of bottled gas so the roaster was rolling without any heat.

Today was a scheduled “lights out” for most of the northern region of Ghana.  The electricity was scheduled to be off from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Once again, we were proud to have the generator!  The electricity did not actually go off until about 10:00 am.

Today was wash day so we were doubly proud to have the generator.  The clothes were about ½ dry when we got a rain shower and had to rush out to get the clothes off the line.

The electricity came back on shortly after 6:00 pm; it was only on for an hour and a half before it went off again.  Presently I am typing in the dark; Steve is trying to find a flashlight so he can get the key and turn the generator back on!  Not sure what the electric company is doing right now; maybe there is a fault with the work they were doing today.

Timothy called tonight and said that worship had been canceled because the mason had the key to the church building; when he left for the day he took the key.  Timothy’s daughter Abigail went to his house but he was nowhere to be found.  He also said that the mason was ready for the metal rods to make the lintels for the doors and windows.  If he had told us earlier, we could have bought the rods and taken them to him but all the shops are closed now.  It looks like we will be making a trip out there first thing in the morning.

I am in the process of adding the “setting triangles” to the quilt top I am working on but I have run into a problem.  I have been trying to figure out what is wrong for a couple days.  I can see that there is a problem but I don’t know why!  I was looking at the quilt top while we were fixing supper and I think that I finally figured it out.  Anyway, I found one problem and I am in hopes that when I fix that problem it will fix everything else.  Wish me luck!

Thank you for all you do for us!  We really appreciate you guys!

The Monkeyshines

I have been scared all day!  That awful machine that is supposed to be roasting corn has been running all day long!  I do not like that machine; not one little bit!  I feel certain that the machine is going to get loose and come after me; I am sure that it could eat me whole!

Mom had to keep going outside to look at the machine and I was determined to make every trip with her; you know I have to protect her!  I would jump on her shoulder and go with her onto the veranda where the machine is but as soon as we got close to the machine I would run to the end of my leash; open the door to the house and go inside.  Yes, I can open that door all by myself!  I have to be quick about getting inside because the door has a spring on it and it could catch my tail if I am not quick!  Once I was safely in the house I would hang on the screen door so I could keep an eye on the machine.

The worst part of the morning came when a couple of young ladies came to the mission house.  They are apprentices; they are studying to be seamstresses.  Their teacher sent them to the mission house with a couple burlap type bags full of fabric scraps.  Mom wanted to buy the scraps but she did not need the very small pieces so Mom, the girls and Zorash sat on the veranda with that machine while they sorted the scraps.  I was so distressed!  Not only were there strangers on the veranda but the machine was running!

Beware of “stranger danger”!
