Mr. Iddrisu had his brother come to the mission house this morning and raise mounds in the front field to plant cassava in.  The cassava mounds and the yam mounds are made the same way.  They make a mound that is about 3 feet tall.  They plant the cassava and the yams in the top of the mound.  If the mounds are made correctly the tubers will grow straight down.  If the mounds are not deep enough the tuber will hit the hard ground and make fingers instead of long straight tubers.  This is the first year that his brother has come to the mission property to help Mr. Iddrisu with his farming.  Mr. Iddrisu wanted to send his brother by himself but we told him that we did not know his brother and that we were not comfortable having a stranger working on the mission property.  If something happens to the man such as getting a snake bite we will be responsible for him.  Besides, how do we know he is not a thief?  We figured that Mr. Iddrisu was not planning on coming to work today but when we told him his brother could not work here alone he decided to come to work.  Imagine that!

The other baby that we suspect has Cerebral Palsy went to the hospital in Tamale today for no reason.   They are the ones that had scanning done and it was on a thumb drive/ memory stick that needed to be read.  The doctor that reads the drives was not in the hospital today so they told her to come back on Friday.  What a waste of money and the mother’s time and energy!

Right now Steve is trying to get the blue van cleaned and ready for our trip to Tamale on Sunday.  When he was checking the water and oil he discovered that the plastic radiator reservoir had popped loose and one of the belts was rubbing on it.  Fortunately it had not rubbed a hole through the plastic.  Steve secured it back in place.

We got the freezer that Boat repaired set back in its spot.  We got it loaded; it seems to be working well.  Steve moved the small freezer out onto the side of the veranda; we thought that we were going to have to have it worked on because the fan did not come on.  Steve called Boat; he said that it was supposed to cycle every 2 to 4 hours.  We will keep an eye on it.  It seems to be cooling fine.  Before Steve could move it he had to put in a new outlet.

We did not walk this morning; instead we hung the blinds behind Skeeter’s cage.  It took us longer than we expected because we decided to use ¼ inch rebar to make “S” hooks to hang the 4x 8 ft blinds.  They look nice and now Skeeter is protected from the sun, rain and the prying eyes of kids!  Last week a group of school boys threw all sorts of stones and sticks over the wall at Skeeter.  Maybe if they can’t see him they will not be so tempted!

Take care and have a good day!

The Monkeyshines

I had a real treat this morning!  The parents worked outside for about 3 ½ hours!  I was outside all the time!  I was not running free because there was a strange man in the field tearing up the ground!  He worked very hard but barely moved!  I don’t like strangers!  They give me the creeps!  I think that all strangers are going to hurt me!  I digress!  I was on my leash but I still had fun.  One of my favorite things to do outside is to pick up small stones and fill my cheek pouches with them.  Mom says that is a good way to get worms but I don’t care!  Besides, Mom is always giving me that worm medicine!  Yuck!  Surely they could make that stuff taste better; how about some mango flavored worm medicine or even banana flavor would be better than what they are making now!

This afternoon Mom worked on the computer while I slept beside her.  I was dying to get my hands on those keys but she had the computer on the other side of her out of my reach!  I did get the mouse a couple times but that got me in trouble so that was not nearly as much fun as I thought it was going to be so I went back to napping.

Hey!  Does someone out there want to make a lot of money?  Make worm medicine that tastes like real food and you will make a million!

Love, Skeeter
