We had a rather lazy day today! I think it is nice just to have a day to laze around and do nothing of importance.
Nazo did not come to work today because he got word that his brother that lives in Tamale was in a motorcycle accident and was in the hospital in Tamale. Nazo called this afternoon to let us know that his brother was ok but he had a broken leg. We are not sure if he will be back at work tomorrow.
We are trying to get the paperwork in order for next year’s raise. Usually by this time the government has decided how much they are going to increase the minimum wage. We base the workers and evangelists’ raise on how much the minimum wage is increased. We went to the SSNIT (Social Security) office this morning to see if they had gotten the information yet; we were disappointed that they had not. They said it was unusual not to know by this time of the year. Maybe it is because this year is an election year for the Ghana government too.
I sat down in the office chair that I use while I am sewing and one of the legs snapped off of it! That was rather a shocking surprise. Luckily I did not land on the floor. We went to town to see if we could find another chair. The ones we have in the office are “home use” which means they are used. No one sells new chairs in Yendi. I have to have a chair that does not have arm rests so the chair will slide under my sewing table and out of the way when I am not using it. All the chairs they were selling had arm rests. Maybe next time we go to Tamale we can remember to look for one. Meanwhile I am just balancing on four legs instead of five. I think I am strengthening my core muscles! Ha!
They hauled more blocks today; they have to be getting close to finishing that job. Red dumped the first load of sand at the job site. Did I tell you we are building a 4 room storage building at the back end of the property? We are mainly doing it to fully secure the land. The storage building will give the workers that farm the land a place to keep their grain. The price of grain here is low as soon as it is harvested but as the dry season comes to an end the prices skyrocket. All the farmers try their best to hold the grain until they can get the best price for it.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. We really appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. We are begging for prayers on behalf of our niece Tera. She is fighting hard and needs all the prayers she can get. Please pray for her family and all those caring for her. Thank you in advance!
